NYC high school students lock out administrators over 'racist, homophobic misogynistic video
Students at a private New York City high school held a protest on Monday after a recording showed classmates using racist and homophobic language.
ABC News reported that students locked administrators out of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, located in the Bronx, out of frustration over the response to the video, which was recorded a few years ago but circulated more recently.
A Fieldston spokesperson told ABC that "a group of Upper School students and parents initiated a peaceful sit-in protest in the administration building, locking out employees from entering."
The head of the school wrote in mid-February that one student involved in the video has withdrawn from the school, but she did not detail consequences for others involved in the recording, ABC reported.
Students at Monday's protest reportedly took issue with the lack of transparency, saying that "the disciplinary process has yet to provide mandatory briefing on the conduct and punishment."
The students leading the protest indicated that the demonstrations would continue until the group's demands were met. Among their desires is to see an investigation into systemic racism at the school, ABC reported.
