Mike Pence just offered Senate Republicans a deal with the devil:

https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/433750-pence-floats-offer-to-kill-trump-emergency-disapproval-resolution

Vice President Pence is discussing an offer with Republican senators that could lead to the defeat of a Democratic resolution overturning President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the Mexican border, according to GOP sources briefed on the matter.

Under the deal discussed between Pence and GOP senators, Trump would sign legislation reining in his power to declare future national emergencies if they defeat the resolution of disapproval.

...

Senate Republicans familiar with the offer say there would have to be an ironclad promise from Trump to sign Lee’s bill in order to flip Republicans who currently say they will vote for the resolution of disapproval.

So far, Trump himself hasn’t made any such pledges, leaving the process in limbo.

Pence made “no commitment,” according to a White House official familiar with the meeting, and only said he would relay the possible deal to Trump.

The vice president said he would be “happy to bring their concerns to the president but made zero commitments,” according to the White House official.

...

Lee acknowledged that he won't be able to get his bill to the floor before the March recess, which is scheduled to begin Friday.

That means any plan to trade votes on Thursday's resolution would have to wait at least for a couple of weeks.

"Okay, you go along with Trump's abuse of power this one time, and in exchange he may or may not promise to sign a future bill that has yet to be written, that would prevent him from doing it again."

You would have to be Sen. Susan Collins-ish levels of gullible to take Pence's promises seriously.

Doing something (anything!) on the condition of Trump keeping a promise is just.. fall down hilarious

I guess you could have Tim Apple co-sign it and Trump could have it delivered in one of those invisible F-35 jets

Clearly Trump isn't the only Republican suffering from dementia and failing memory.

They passed whatever deal it was before the shutdown because donnie told them he'd sign it but then ann coulter had a hissy fit, he didn't sign and donnie and the cons wound up taking the blame for the shutdown. They'd have to be imbeciles to trust him again which means they will definitely do it again.

Just in case anyone thinks Pence would be better than Trump, think again. Pence’s ability to function at a higher level in the political arena than Trump makes him all the more dangerous.

it can't be legal. What if a real emergency arose later on that Trump should sign a declaration for?

Republicans should just cut to the chase and write the bill the way they really mean it. A Republican president can sign an emergency declaration but a Democratic president cannot.

These fucking Republicans are like grade school kids voting for class president, I'll vote for you if you vote for me.

The proposal is freaking nonsense. Why doesn't Pence just offer free massages at Mar-el-Loco for a no vote? That would make more sense than what is being proposed.

they could give a fuck less about governance.

They are so one track on beating the evil liberal they just bound from one fuck up to the next.

But this makes PERFECT sense to them:

They get to have their guy get away with abusing the power, while keeping their evil liberals from in the future using it similarly to deal with ACTUAL, for real crisises ...

This sounds like the kind of deal that Hindenburg, Hitler and the Riechstag reached that brought Hitler to power. Everything will be fine! Trust us. Just do this little thing here and we'll take care of it.
