scandal. Attempts to suggest it's just the ígnorant' foreign pilots '(wink wink about the racist slur) have fallen flat on their face.

(20,626 posts)below the surface in the reporting of this story. Lawrence O'Donnell was on MJS this AM, and went out of his way to emphasize that Ethiopian Air is a GREAT airline, having personally flown with them on many occasions! He wanted to let people know that this is not some fly-by-night operation, with sketchy crews and questionable training.

(15,800 posts)The plane he flies is private, owned by a famous person with more wealth than I can imagine. That person is looking at replacing the plane, and cancelled/is in the process of cancelling their order for one of these.
Passengers wont want to fly on these. Other countries wont buy them. Private plane sales probably wont be great either. The FAA is in denial.

(26,366 posts)This has nothing to do with race but rather with the quality of the airline itself.
Speaking of quality, the first of the 737 Max planes that crashed shouldn't even have been
have been in the air due to a technical problem that the airline's maintenance personal couldn't fix.

I can recall when there were several crashes regarding the DC-10 and hundreds dead in the late 70's and early 80's before the FAA acted and grounded them all in the US. I loved flying in those planes. One of those crashes was at Chicago's O'Hare airport.

(593 posts)In December, Boeing was talking to the FAA to approve the fix, but then Trump's Shutdown made the FAA employees go home. Thus the fix which should have been released in January, is just coming out and as a result more than 150 people died last Sunday.
In short, Trump killed more than 150 people.
This was discussed last night on Rachael Maddow's show.
