We're here today because of the crimes that Mr. Manafort committee for over a decade," Andrew Weissmann said.

He said that Manafort talked about promoting American ideals and ideology. "His conduct belies both of those things," Weissmann said.

Weissmann: When investigators were onto M he lied repeatedly
to the DOJ. He then tampered with 2 witnesses to avoid getting
caught for the FARA and money laundering crime. In violating the
act, he not only hid it from the American people but also the people
that worked for him.

She's live-tweeting. These are just a few tweets.

HighlySelectiveHat Retweeted

Re: the argument by Manafort's lawyers that Manafort has supported family and friends financially, Weissmann says: "That in other circumstances would be truly admirable, it is less so when it is done with other people’s money."

Weissmann calls Manaforts violation of FARA "egregious," saying Manafort not only failed to report his work for Ukraine, but he had other companies involved conceal their role, created a sham group to serve as a "fig leaf," and then filed an "false and incomplete" report in 2017

Re: the witness tampering conspiracy, Weissmann says that it's a crime that goes to the "heart" of the justice system, and notes that Manafort tried to interfere with witnesses while he was already the subject of a prosecution

Now Downing is up to argue on behalf of Manafort. Says
Manafort recognizes these are serious crimes, and "he
will address the court to show that he truly is sorry for violating the law."

Downning says there's a ton of political motivation
around this case, not from prosecutors but from the
press, largely. Asks the court to take into account the
harshness of that on Manafort and his family.

Manafort is now addressing the court. "In my previous allocation I told Judge Ellis I was ashamed for my conduct...I want to say to you now that I am sorry for what I have done and for all the activities that have gotten me here today."

with how he behaved in Judge Ellis's court. He must have felt arrogantly confident then that he didn't need to lower himself to pretending shame.

Ellis gives extremely low sentence for a mostly "blameless" man, setup for a "quid pro quo" pardon that's undoubtedly coming.

Hopefully tRump, his offsprings, and Jared will get the same treatment. They should take Mar-A-Lago, all the kids' properties, and what'll be left of their bank accounts on and off-shore.

It'll be party time 🎉.
