non-binding vote.
Tomorrow's vote to beg for an extension.
Ultimately there will have to be an election and a new referendum.

(16,646 posts)It would seem the problem here is that the Pro-Brexit folks want to eat their cake and have it too. They were sold a bill of goods in which they could leave, with no real consequence. It just isn't going to happen. At the very least there will need to be a hard border in NI.
It would seem that the only real option here is an extension, a "final" deal on exit, and a referendum on whether that deal should be accepted. You want exit? Vote FOR a hard border in NI.

(19,038 posts)That border will result in people shooting at it and bombing it, 100% guaranteed.

(19,038 posts)EU has no reason to coddle the UK. Now they will tell them either you leave now with no deal and suffer the consequences, or you promise to hold another nationwide vote if we give you an extension.

(28,787 posts)my understanding, which is slight and comes from a short conversation on Twitter, is that Parliament could have reversed the decision to leave or call a second referendum at any time. it's good that No Deal has gone down at least. I would like to see the UK stay.
how much longer do you figure May has left?
Mariana
(14,854 posts)The referendum wasn't binding. The EU has said they'll allow the UK to remain and everything can be as it was. If Parliament simply vote to repeal Brexit, Brexit doesn't happen.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

(28,787 posts)why is it that there is this compunction to run toward a cliff and off of it? I do have a British friend. She's lived in the USA for over 30 years but never naturalized (married to an American). She is double distraught with what's going on there, and here. Brexit will be a disaster, but the worst case scenario was just rejected at least.

(56,582 posts)Any extension will require unanimous EU approval, and Hungary and Italy won't grant it.
It's all over but the shouting: the UK will exit without a deal in 2 weeks.

(36,745 posts)Scotland will start the process of secession and NI will begin unification talks with Dublin. What will we call just England and Wales?

(16,646 posts)There are still a significant number of "loyalists". They may be a minority, but they will be a significant minority. The current power sharing agreement will make it difficult for them to be forced out of the UK.

(8,755 posts)That's a moments decision that has far reaching affects and they did it on a simple majority?
That was but the first of 1,000 head scratching decisions the UK made.
And these people recently had a world spanning Empire? Wow.

No, is a new national referendum where the public votes on a new
LEAVE EU under latest proposal
STAY in EU
Effectively revoting on Brexit but facing a reality in the vote.
