Columbus Police Vice Officer To Be Detained Ahead Of Federal Trial https://t.co/Sskzpscyqv https://t.co/T6cc6dko2u

Snip--Columbus Police Vice officer Andrew Mitchell will remain in jail ahead of his federal trial. Mitchell is charged with allegedly kidnapping multiple women under the pretense of arrest and forcing them to have sex in exchange for their freedom.

At a hearing Wednesday afternoon in federal court, Judge Kimberly Jolson said pre-trial detention is an exceptional step. She says that the least restrictive conditions must be imposed on the defendant, but she must consider the nature of the alleged crimes and weight of evidence.

snip--When you have a police officer who not only commits a crime, but does so under color of law, under his authority as a police officer, that is an extraordinarily serious offense that is a nightmarish breach of trust, and that is a federal crime," said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman on Monday.

Jolson said that Mitchell's 31-year career with the Columbus Police would normally work in his favor, but that in this case, it works against him. Mitchell primarily focused on solicitation cases with the Vice Unit, which is currently under FBI investigation. Jolson said determining Mitchell’s character is "truly a grab bag."

This is the same police dept whose vice officers arrested Stormy Daniels at a strip club last year, then the Internal Affairs Division found no preplanning on the arrest (paraphrased) this week. That decision is now going upline in the PD.

Last year, the media spokesman, was atrested b/c kiddy porn.

Snip--COLUMBUS (WCMH) -- Former Columbus Division of Police Sgt. Dean Worthington was sentenced Thursday in a child pornography case.

Worthington was given a 9 year sentence in the case but that was suspended to 90 days in county jail and a $5,000 fine. He will also have to register as a sex offender for 25 years, and have no access to the internet.

In November, Worthington pleaded guilty to four counts of sex-related charges including illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and three counts of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor."

No info on new Chief of Police, yet.

And given that the numbers of CPD shooting & killing young POC is uncommonly high, over the last 5 years, yep, troubles right here in

I know that the FBI is currently investigating Columbus PD. The police dept was investigated in the late 90s & early 00s by the FBI.
The supervision was lifted in 2015.

snip--Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein announced Tuesday that his office will review and dismiss any open and pending cases that were based solely on the police work of Columbus vice Officer Andrew Mitchell, who has been indicted on federal charges.

Klein’s office also will review past cases that ended with convictions and involved only the work of Mitchell, 55, who is accused of holding two women against their will until they had sex with him."

snip--"A spokeswoman for Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said his office was unaware of any felony-level cases involving Mitchell that would have been brought to them."
