I have less than zero sympathy for the lot of them

Some cable broadcasting/marketing boardrooms are absolutely desperate to find "The Next Kardashian" reality TV megastar and these spoiled brats practically have it tattooed on their faces...

As an ASU grad you expect certain things from SC.

(14,565 posts)I never understand the need for any other reference. Locals call it SC. When I was in Las Vegas all I heard was SC. Somehow all the lengthy complicated versions stem from midwest or further
SC is also very convenient to distinguish from South Carolina, which does not shorten to SC

(2,190 posts)She was a social butterfly and club/school athlete in high school, with a not-great GPA, but she graduated magna cum laude from ASU. She spent a semester in India; she did all kinds of things. Over a thousand California students were in her class (she's from CA, too) and ASU takes pains to get them out in four years, which is not a guarantee at either the UCs or the CSUs. It was her top choice, exactly the place she needed to be, and she knew it as soon as she set foot on campus for a tour during her junior year in high school.

(8,419 posts)I am still a bit disappointed at the costs.
ASU cost 30k plus for an out of state kid. Half the cost of SC, but still out of control.
NAU has a good program for California kids, along with WSU, University of Idaho and others.
It is tough for kids without a lot of means to make it. The CSU schools are now highly competitive so your average student can't get into the local state school.
So basically a kid like me would have limited choices. In my case I was able to go to ASU, pay $300 to $400 per semester, work and get through in four years.

They will still land in their cushy pile of millions of dollars, then pursue their real interests in acting and cosmetics/fashion.
Meanwhile, another aspect of the scam, that of falsely using disability accommodations to get set up with cheating proctors will likely have a negative impact on students who have genuine disabilities and who need accommodations. They are the ones who will face tougher requirements and scepticism from peers at the end of the day.

Anyhow, who was sitting in a corner with two others but Kylie. All three spent the entire time staring at their phones. Not a word exchanged. For all her money, she sure didn't appear very happy. Looked bored as hell. Ah, the problems of the rich and famous!

(90,565 posts)Her husband was my son's elementary school teacher. Their son got scholarships --real ones-- graduated with a business degree from Boston College; their daughter (can't remember where she went) is also in finance. As the older generation in the extended family has passed away, her generation is holding on to their little houses and sprucing them up for rentals.
When my son was in elementary school he took Aikido from a Japanese-American fellow whose wife owned a beauty parlor across the way. They were an older couple by then, and his studio was practically legendary in our little town. She would tell anyone who listened that her beauty parlor built his studio, and it did. That couple "graduated" from Manzanar internment camp. Their son graduated from University of California.
What I will say about jobs such as cosmetology/hairdressing is that the necessary certificates are easy to get if you have the skills and desire, and they are easy to finance compared to a 4-year college. They are an entree into the work world for women of limited means -- but hard work and brains will do. They are not for intellectual snobs and they are not for the likes of kids who can get into the University of Spoiled Children because their parents bribed an administrator.
I have learned so much since I was 18 y.o.

(6,851 posts)Cutting hair takes talent and nerve. It is not only hard physical work requiring dexterity and the artistic eye, but it requires unlimited patience with customers. In other words, I would starve if I had to make my living that way. About the only job I could do inside a salon would be sweeping floors. I admire anyone who has success in that field.

(36,389 posts)I am suggesting Olivia has shown an interest in things that don't include academia, and this beauty stuff might be a good foundation to build on.
But speaking of smarts, I know one smart hair stylist, and she graduated FIRST in her class.
JUANITA JEAN HEROWNSELF Juanita is owner of The Worlds Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc., Fort Bends only professional political organization. Her main qualification to comment on Texas politics is that she owns pink cowboy boots. Not just one pair, but several. Most likely, you dont.
Through diligent research, it has been discovered that Juanita is the daughter of Judge Clyve T. ByGawd Bell and his bride, the lovely and talented Lillie Jean Bell, who was known in a four county area for her unique ability to lasso while singing opera.
Juanita graduated from Elite Beauty School in Del Rio, Texas, (whose motto is: We never heard of you either) first in her class, and after a brief stint with the Buck Pochek Professional Waterskiing and Ring-O-Fire Extravaganza, she settled down in Richmond. Her first husband, Bubba Hank, died in a semi-tragic Nascar pit stop accident. Juanita has found no good reason to remarry.

(17,862 posts)Other times they jeopardize their accreditation instead (see North Carolina fake class scandal).
I am saying they have specific rules, and they should apply equally to all students.
Say you lie on your college admission application about being an officer in a club, should they be able to pull your degree years later even if you otherwise satisfied all requirements.
Think carefully about your answer given that Martin Luther King Jr. plagiarized his doctoral thesis, a far more egregious offense.
