My daughter was quoted in The Washington Post today about the Georgetown admission scandal

[link:https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/three-spots-alleged-bribery-of-tennis-coach-stings-georgetown-admissions/2019/03/16/36da7412-472c-11e9-8aab-95b8d80a1e4f_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.7a8b0cce173d|

Gabby Elliott Brault, 20, a sophomore, said the scandal is disheartening.

“As a low-income, first-generation college student, I feel a little attacked by the news,” she said. “It’s another example of wealthy students buying their way into the university and taking spots away from deserving applicants who have a harder time getting into Georgetown.”

I was surprised this morning when she had her quote on Instagram. She busted her ass to get into Georgetown and it sucks that frauds took spots from other students like her. A point in the school's favor though is that she's there on full ride.

for other deserving students who were closed out to make way for those who can purchase their way in.

Of course, Georgetown and Yale are supposedly private businesses, and failing their publicized standards could be considered between them and their alumni, donors and students. But they do benefit from federal money through both research grants and special student loan programs that don't just benefit the students but the schools. And that makes it everyone's business.

Of course, the state universities like UCLA are supported by both state and federal money, and for sure corruption there is very much all our business.

So, a personal thank-you also to your Gabby for speaking out.

As the mother of another rock star daughter (lol), I congratulate you both or your intelligence and accomplishments.

It's pretty awesome to have your daughter as one of your heroines, isn't it?

she deserves all the credit. She's always been very driven and competitive. So much so that she applied for a boarding on her own at 14 years old lol. She continues to make me proud everyday.

She is at UC Berkeley, also a great school but she is sick to her stomach about this whole scandal

Her best friend since nursery school's parent's were arrested this week - her friend didn't know her parents did this.

Its disgusting what they and other parents did.

I couldn't live with myself if I potentially fucked my kid's chances.
UC Berkeley is an awesome school! Congrats to her! I hope she continues to do well.

Our kids went in the front door and have worked hard....but they were denied admission to other schools that many kids whose parents cheated and bribed them in....

Her friend is a mess right now....her parents did an unforgivable thing...now she isn't sure if she will be expelled from USC and her parents are facing 20 years in prison and all the family money going to legal fees. I think they will be going to prison for some time, at least a year. But they will have to live with their daughter and people who know them knowing what they did and being disgusted.

They already just listed their home and have disappeared. The husband was on our local school board and foundation for years.

Its horrible what they and these other "privileged" parents did that think that the rules don't apply to them.

are why I'm not willing to jump on the the bandwagon of expelling all the students that benefited from the fraud. It should be on a case by case basis.
My daughter wouldn't have been able to accept the spot if they hadn't given her 100% scholarship. She's one of the few at Georgetown that is and that has caused occasional problems with the snobs at the school. At least our kids can say they earned it.

I hadn't heard that georgetown was part of it. I had been accepted there but chose a different school, so it usually catches my ear.
