Maori biker gang perform an emotional haka surrounded by mourners (Christchurch)

(I know this is the daily mail but I thought this was interesting to see. Also names and photos of the victims are in this article)

A gang spokesman, who did not want to be named, said that 'no words' could explain how hurt people were feeling.

'Even though people call us a gang and what not, we live in this community together and it has just brought everyone together, it doesn't matter what you wear or what colour your skin is, or what you stand for, your religion, it's just brought everyone together like the earthquakes,' he told The Daily Telegraph.

Video of haka is in article.

... with these guys. His idea of a biker gang getting 'tough' on his behalf would backfire bigly.

The stunt team for the New Zealand-filmed trilogy was made up mostly of Maoris, and they performed a haka for the cast and crew upon completion of filming.

I love how a ceremony once used to psych men up for war has now become a ritual to honor dignitaries, the married couple at weddings, and the dead at funerals.

It's also a wonderful demonstration of the power of love over hate, and the determination of good people to fight against injustice.

I happened upon this related article this afternoon,

https://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/biker-gangs-stand-guard-outside-nz-mosques-during-first-friday-prayer-since-massacre-a4096341.html

Bikers have vowed to stand guard outside New Zealand mosques as Muslims take part in their first Friday prayer following the Christchurch shootings.

Gangs like The Mongrel Mob, King Cobra and The Black Power have promised to protect their local Muslim communities across the country, after 50 people were killed and 50 injured in the attack on March 15.

Waikato Mongrel Mob president Sonny Fatu offered to shield the Jamia Masjid Mosque in Hamilton.

“We will support and assist our Muslim brothers and sisters for however long they need us,” Fatu told New Zealand news outlet, Stuff.
