Leaked chat logs have connected seven current members of the U.S. armed forces to a white nationalist group, according to a HuffPost investigation.
Two Marines, two Army ROTC cadets, an Army physician, a member of the Texas National Guard and one member of the Air Force all belong to an organization called Identity Evropa, which is listed by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center as an extremist group.
For years, Identity Evropa members have used a server on Discord, a group chat app popular among the alt-right, to send messages to one another. Last week the independent media collective Unicorn Riot published the contents of that Discord server in its entirety.
A largely anonymous network of anti-fascist activists reviewed the Discord logs, using biographical details mentioned by Identity Evropa members, most of whom posted under pseudonyms, to uncover their offline identities.
Building off that research, HuffPost verified the identities of seven men currently serving in the military. Their messages on the Discord server indicate that they hold deeply racist and anti-Semitic views and participate in Identity Evropa propaganda campaigns, posting stickers and flyers in cities and on college campuses.
The Marine Corps, the Army, the Air Force and the Texas National Guard confirmed to HuffPost that the identified men were active members in those services. After HuffPosts inquiries, the military is investigating some of the mens possible ties to Identity Evropa; some servicemen were already under investigation as a result of previous tips. The military is determining whether they violated rules regarding discrimination and extremist activity.
News of Identity Evropas presence in the military comes at a time of heightened awareness of white nationalist violence. On Friday, a white nationalist gunman opened fire on two mosques in New Zealand, killing at least 49 worshipers. Asked Friday if he sees a rise in white nationalism around the world, President Donald Trump responded, I dont really. I think its a small group of people that have very, very serious problems, I guess.

Let us be clear it was Dumbya who said he was going on a crusade. This Islamophobia did not start with the vile MAGAcretin. It is Bush who fueled the anti-Muslim industry.

Dishonorable Discharges are reserved for the most heinous of crimes like murder, rape, treason and desertion for example.
Simply being a member of an intolerant group or espousing vile beliefs isn't enough

Found traces of racism that wasn't on the level of being reported.
Until I came upon one commanding officer that crossed the line. Almost reported this Major to Equal Opportunity.
Instead, I trusted the chain of command and that system failed.
Clearly, whoever is in the chain of command of these individuals knows what's going on.
These so called "military members" have been provided cover, especially emboldened by their CINC.
Covering racism is DISHONORABLE!

I'd like to start by ridding the nest of them in the White House.

(7,142 posts)7 people? 70 times 7? 700 times 7. There are a heck of a lot more than 7.
Let's not forget law enforcement, how many Nazis are cops? 7 would be a fantastic number that we could live with.
How many judges are Nazis?
Does it matter if these people are active members of White Supremacist groups, or may it be worse that these people covertly carry out White Supremacist activities?
What would one call Clarence Thomas, whose wife was an active member in forming the Tea Party? Is Clarence Thomas a closet Nazi?

(15,316 posts)First, while it is correct that polls show a majority of the military support Donnie Shit for Brains, I think that's a bit of an anomaly.
I served for 30 years, and yes, there are quite a few unhinged rightwing nutjobs in the military. A lot of that stems from the fact that the military is a place where you operate under an authoritarian system.
My experience is that the biggest problem in the military is that the rightwing are the most vocal, and folks that had political beliefs like mine are reluctant to speak up.
Our enlisted ranks really are a microcosm of America...NOT frothing right-wing lunatics.
Also, part of the problem is that national Democrats have pretty much written off the military votes...with a few exceptions.
Military members and veterans helped Elaine Luria send Scott Taylor packing this last election.
Throw in Rush and Faux News being force fed, and you can start to see that where people get their info, impacts their voting.
It's the fucking same in the entire fucking country. If you polled the military on the issues, 60-70% of them would come down on the Democratic Party's side of the issues.
And let me also say that I was a Mustang Officer. I started as an enlisted member, promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and then got a commission through the LDO/Warrant Officer program. I served 15 years as an enlisted, and 15 years as an Officer.
I worked with some fantastic officers at some of the highest levels in our military...if any of them had even an inkling of racism or white supremacy in their ships, Departments or Divisions, they would have cut the perpetrators balls off. I know that I personally would have ensured that the full weight of the UCMJ would have come down on their asses.
It's amazing how easy it is for people to put on a mask and pretend they are something they're not.
I guarantee you right now that there are a lot of assholes puckering as these pricks wait and worry that their ties to white supremacy are going to be found out.
I also guarantee you that the folks mentioned in this article are about to feel the weight of military justice coming down on their asses.
There is no place in the military for these pricks From the lowliest Seaman to the highest ranked officer, if evidence of white supremacy views are exposed, their days in the military are numbered.

I think President Obama and VP Biden were exceptions.
President Obama would always have military families at the WH for celebrations on all the Holidays. And, he visited them on military bases.. they seemed to appreciate him being there.
And, of course, Biden's son Beau was in the Delaware National Guard.
Michelle and Dr Jill Biden connected to the Military families through Joining Forces.

(15,316 posts)have spent the better part of 40+ years convincing the military that the Democratic Party spit on them when they returned from Vietnam.
That's a pretty powerful propaganda image to push back on, but it needs to be pushed back on.
In addition, the Retrumplicans throw money at the DoD like it's going out of style. Nevermind that the vast majority of that money goes to a couple of corporate contractors and very little makes it into the pockets of the troops.
Dems ought to promise that they will scrap one carrier at $15B, and use those funds to give raises to the troops...and then keep that promise

Now in reality Dems are the Patriots and trump works for Russia.. trying to destroy the USA. That's the way I see it.
Sounds like a good plan.

(33,309 posts)We don't need another carrier, that's for sure. If the Dems scrap one, as you suggest, how about using the money for housing, health care, education, and retirement for the military? Seems like every other day there's news of military families suffering bad housing, vets fighting to get health care, etc.
