Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI was not familiar with Dick Dale, so I looked him up on youtube.
I ended up watching this entire video.
Dick Dale was 81 years old at the time of this recording in 2018. Damn. This guy was amazing. RIP, Mr. Dale.
Thanks to DUer Demovictory9 for calling my attention to this artist.

(17,286 posts)I would imagine I've heard a lot of his songs without knowing who performed them.

(12,145 posts)I hadn't heard of this Dick Dale before. The only Dick Dale I knew of was a performer on the Lawrence Welk show.
Now I'll play the You Tube video you posted. Thanks!

None of the songs had lyrics. Misirlou was a popular tune.

Try to see the great documentary about Wray and the influence of Native American music on rock and roll--incuding Hendrix, if I remember. It been a few years since I viewed it.

(20,874 posts)The rifts in his music are of middle eastern origins. This fact should make the white right anti immigrant heads explode!

(1,514 posts)If you look close, you'll notice that he is a left-handed player that uses a left-handed guitar that is strung for a right-handed player. For any guitar players out there, he also uses huge gauge strings. I'm a player myself and I have 10s on my Strat. (the 10 designates the gauge (diameter) of the smallest string, the high E) Dick used 16s for his, which are quite thick.
He is also known for getting Leo Fender to build bigger amplifiers as he kept blowing them up. Check out his page, it's good stuff to read.

Here's another Misirlou played by a Greek band in 1927:
