Suspect in murder of Gambino crime family boss Frank Cali waives extradition

TODT HILL, Staten Island (WABC) -- The 24-year-old man in custody in connection with the murder of reputed Gambino family crime boss Francesco "Frankie Boy" Cali waived extradition back to New York City during a court appearance on Monday in New Jersey. Anthony Comello appeared in court wearing a green and white jumpsuit and had handwritten scrawl on his palm, including what looked like the words "MAGA forever" and "UNITED WE STAND."

"The people who know him best, his family and friends, cannot believe what they are hearing," Comello's lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, said prior to the hearing. "There is something very wrong here, and we will get to the bottom of it.

Comello had been held in Ocean County since Saturday morning when he was taken into custody at his family's summer home in Brick.

Comello will now be brought to New York to face charges in connection with the shooting death of Cali, the reputed Gambino boss gunned down in front of his Staten Island home after a car accident that investigators believe was staged to lure Cali from the house.

what a shitstorm he was inciting. Could he REALLY have been so dumb as to not realized her father was head of the mob?

I wouldn't bet on his long term viability.

I am still trying to figure out how a Mafia Don would not have people posted everywhere he is, even home. Maybe I am just clueless about the Mafia.

When a hooded gunman pumped close to a dozen bullets into Frank Cali, a reputed leader of the Gambino crime family, outside his Staten Island home on Wednesday night, detectives naturally examined the possibility that the killing may have stemmed from his role atop one of New York’s five Mafia families.

But after the arrest on Saturday of a 24-year-old man who lives with his parents, it appears the old-school crime figure may have been the victim of an angry young man with a gun and a grudge, but apparently no mob ties.

Some law enforcement officials have said they are looking at the possibility that the alleged killer, Anthony A. Comello, had a romantic interest in one of Mr. Cali’s female relatives, and that the crime boss had told him to stay away. But the Police Department’s chief of detectives, Dermot F. Shea, said the motive was still unclear, and detectives were examining “multiple angles.”

I hate to say it. It may not have been a mob hit. But I don't see him living a very long life.
