Trump approval rating by religious Demographic.

It's scary that white evangelicals -- the group with the very highest support for Trump -- accounted for a quarter of midterm voters, even though they are only 15% of the population.

The rest of us have to do better next time!

https://www.axios.com/white-evangelicals-support-trump-2020-voters-demography-bc92ed44-1601-4928-af9c-96f72e77f562.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=organic&utm_content=1100&fbclid=IwAR36JlCZCN_bEDNB8ToXBKwlzWzaN0RqzX5xFrZV1stZupzt4bfnQVugjEA

69% White Evangelicals

48% White Protestant

44% White Catholics

26% Nonwhite Catholics

20% Religiously unaffiliated

12% Black Protestants

Why it matters: White evangelicals consistently have a disproportionate impact on elections and were key to Trump's 2016 victory. They only made up 15% of the population in 2018, but accounted for more than a quarter of midterm voters, according to Robert Jones, the CEO and founder of the Public Religion Research Institute. Ahead of 2020, Trump remains their favorite candidate.

Non-white Protestants and Catholics, as well as the religiously unaffiliated, are overall significantly less likely to support Trump.

Between the lines: Support for Trump has fallen over the past few years among white evangelicals, but they remain the only religious group with a majority that favors Trump. Their support has been bolstered by the willingness of several prominent religious leaders to publicly defend Trump.

A neighbor invited us to church. Not wanting to make enemies right away by telling them we are Unitarian, we went. The longest political rally held in church I have ever seen.

The pastor prayed for every single right wing Republican he could think of. Reminded the congregation that only good Republican Christians go to heaven.

Terrifying......

5. What's interesting is his approval rate among white evangelicals by church attendance

His approval ratings among white evangelicals who do not attend church in an average month is like 80%, and it's 45% or so among white evangelicals who attend church more than once a week.

9. Well, yeah, but it's not just that: any civic or community engagement makes support for Trump fall

People who go to church didn't support Trump, nor people who participate in voluntary organizations, nor people who participate in fraternal organizations, nor even people who participate in adult intramural sports. Any sort of community engagement like that apparently cuts Trump support significantly, even among Republicans.
