Typical media BS story, written by RALPH REED, about how evangelicals are not all alike.

Evangelical Christians are often portrayed as voting based solely on identity politics, born suckers for Scripture quotes. It turns out that they are more sophisticated, Ralph Reed says.

Hello, fox... henhouse. Hello, pot... kettle.

Reed Confirms Fees From Indian Casino Lobbyists

NEW YORK, Aug. 29 -- Ralph Reed, Southeast regional chairman of the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign and former executive director of the Christian Coalition, confirmed on Sunday that he accepted more than $1 million in fees from a lobbyist and a public relations specialist whose work on behalf of American Indian casinos prompted a federal investigation.

In addition to his role running the campaign in the Southeast, Reed is a liaison to the Christian evangelical community, and many of its leaders are adamantly opposed to gambling. Reed has been widely credited with leading the political mobilization of the Christian right since the late 1980s.

In religion there are two types, the wolves and the sheep. I know there's a wolf/fish proverb in there some where... Let's see, give a wolf a sheep and he eats for a day, teach a wolf to Shepard a flock and he eats for a lifetime?

6. This is completely unfair -- evangelicals are not the same as fundamentalists

Go read http://www.patheos.com/blogs/slacktivist/ if you want an example of a thoroughly progressive evangelical.

Or check out http://occupyevangelicals.org/ for an evangelical who is also an occupier and thinks more of his fellow evangelicals should join him.

These may not be the "more sophisticated" evangelicals Ralph Reed is thinking of -- but they exist and they're potentially significant and they don't deserved to be smeared here at DU.

MLK Jr. was an Evangelical.

Evangelical does not equal a Fundamentalist nut.
