I have trouble coping with life when fantasy beats reality over and over again.

During my lifetime I based my decisions on things like facts, science, history, commonsense and experience. I completely rejected things like conspiracy theories and religious fantasies. This always worked for me. Over the past few years it stopped working.

Trumps entire campaign was a fantasy. We elected a fantasy. When he was elected I was in a state of shock and I immediately began to prepare and protect myself from the worst. Trump has done dozens of things that would have destroyed any other presidency. When he does something wrong it's like it isn't real, doesn't matter.

When Mueller was appointed I was very happy. I knew if anyone could beat this fantasy it would be Mueller. Mueller is reality, he doesn't like fantasies.

I still have faith in Mueller. We have to wait to see the report to find out why no one was charged with conspiracy. I believe there is a good chance the report could show evidence of obstruction of justice and abuse of power. We have all witnessed Trump commit these offenses right out in the open time and time again. There was an obvious pattern. These are impeachable offenses, not necessarily criminal offenses.

Mueller passed on criminal investigations to my home state of New York. Trump and Bar cannot touch state investigations. The SDNY investigations are federal but they have a long history of being fiercely independent. Any attempt to stop them would be met with great resistance. We would know about. New York is a major threat to Trump. Smart move by Mueller.

If Obstruction and abuse of power are in the report that would be passed onto the House for impeachment hearings.

At that point it will once again become a battle of fantasy vs reality. Will reality win this time?

indulge in fantasy, the more swift and painful the smackdown.

Climate change, for instance.

Just about everything that exists in human society is just made up--things like "nations" and "human rights" and "money" only have any meaning or value because everyone collectively agrees that they do. Nature gives not one single fuck what kind of passport you have, or what's in your bank account. And besides, nothing really means anything except that people all agree that it is so--in a couple billion years the sun will expand and engulf the Earth anyway, and if there is any life as we know it left at that point, it will die and there will be nobody left to give a shit about humans or anything they ever thought or did.

What's "real" is how we treat one another, and the rest of the planet. Society is what we make of it, and right now the reins of power are held by absolute assholes intent on fucking over everyone and everything else in the service of their own pointless greed, because of some "reality" of their own that justifies this as some kind of divine mission perhaps, but mostly because they are just fucking assholes and it gives them pleasure to hold others in their thrall.

I think what we need to do, those of us who would create a more cooperative society, with mechanisms to ensure that all citizens are provided the basic necessities so that we can collectively improve the quality of life for everyone, and who would strive to return to the ideals that I was taught were the basis of our nation, the United States of America, of inclusivity, fairness, freedom and justice for all--what we need to do is to foster a clear vision of that "reality" as an antidote to just letting the assholes of the world have their way as we do now.

All of society is a fantasy...or more accurately a shared game of pretend. The rule of law--the whole integrity of our structure of nation-states--depends on everyone (or at least those with the ability to bend others to their will by force of arms) playing along with that game. This whole situation we have now just highlights the "reality" that laws are for "little people." That's always been true, really, but in the past our "leaders" have had the good sense to at least pretend to play along. This bunch of fuckheads; they don't care, they'll just tell you straight to your face that they think they're better than you, and they have the guys with the guns and you don't, so you can toe the line or else. Just assholes.
