If there was no damning information in the Mueller report Barr would have released it by now

Just a theory... It could be wrong...It could be right... It's just hard believing, given the public record, Mueller didn't uncover wrongdoing. But finding evidence of wrongdoing isn't tantamount to having evidence to prove a crime was committed beyond a reasonable doubt. That's a high burden.

3. If it cleared Trump in anyway or even gave them some wiggle room to make a case they ...

.... would have released it by now. But no we have 2 things working:

1) Barr will release "highlights" of it. (Nixon tried this back in the day) https://www.democraticunderground.com/100211947217

b) "They" will go to their fall back defense ... you can't indict a sitting President.

Evidence to prove a crime beyond a reasonable doubt =/= Factual innocence. That's why they have different standards of proof in civil and criminal court.

5. Good theory

Being a pessimist, they probably thought it would be easy to spin, and found that its not, and don't know what to do. If it says "campaign coluded, but no actual statute broken", I don'y know how they spin that in Trump's favor. It has to conclude that Trump impeded the investigation at every turn.

9. I disagree.

Itís aporopriate that he read the report and then write his summary.
After that he will consult with Rosesteon and Mueller about how to handle the full report.
I would hope he decides, after consultation, to release the full report to the appropriate Congressional committees.

This will take a little time in any case. Also we donít know how big the report is. If itís huge it could take more time.

36. It has to be bad

Common sense will dictate that all was good, it would of been publicly announced last night. If something was bad, careful release to Congress would be planned over some time. The fact that Barr announced he will let Congress know this weekend and Trump is quiet as a mouse......It's common sense that trump is in a world of trouble! Perhaps the whole story will be exposed!

40. I'd just love a hint, like how long it is

If it's 120 pages long, that would make me feel better.

Watch this, though. Trump keeps even now saying that Comey and Mueller are "best friends," though they both have said that they were colleagues and not really friendly. Trump has used this to say that Mueller is, not sure what, conflicted in some way.

But Mueller and Barr really are friends-- they and their wives socialize. So watch that as soon as Barr releases anything, Trump is going to start talking about how Barr "betrayed"him because of friendship with Mueller.

21. Right. I was thinking, that after they refuse for a few weeks, we can say, "What are they hiding?"

For them and their gangster, it's lose-lose:

Option 1: He's a gangster: so hide it. Then we accuse them of more obstruction.
Option 2: He's a gangster: So release it. And we scream impeachment.

34. The speculation over at our sister site

(I went so you don't have too) is that Trump is at Mar-a Lago planning a counterstrike.

To wit:

PrescientWon. (8,591 posts)

The Empire Strikes Back.... the real reason why Graham and the Legal Team is at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump is a counter puncher.

He had to wait until the Mueller Investigation was finished before launching the counter offensive.

Imagine the Spring of 1943 in Stalingrad. The Nazi troops have ground to a halt at the in the city at the hands of fierce combat and father Winter.

Then... as the ice thaws, tank engines rumble and warplanes have their oil changed and bomb racks filled...

The Nazis are weakened and have low morale. The Red Army smashes back with vigor and rage at the invaders.

They are planning the next step. It must be timed for full benefit of 2020. There must be indictments and suspicions must rise all the way to the Obama WH and DoJ. The goal for the next 18 months is to connect ALL DEMS with cheating, obstruction of Justice and treason. Very public hearings... 3AM raids and frog marches will be part of the show.

It'll be interesting when he starts tweeting again.

Do they think that it's a good read likening themselves to the Soviet Red Army facing off against the NAZIS? It sounds more like a description of an internal GOP war.

(I think a CBS report since it was from the local radio affiliate here) that Barr was NOT going to release anything today. They have a tweet saying basically the same thing -

Robert Mueller submits Russia report: Key findings on Mueller report will not be released Saturday

By Emily Tillett, Grace Segers

Updated on: March 23, 2019 / 4:40 PM / CBS News

Special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation has concluded, and he has now submitted his long-awaited report to Attorney General William Barr. A senior Justice Department official told CBS News that Mueller is not recommending any further indictments. The Justice Department also confirmed that the "principal conclusions" of the report will eventually be made public.

Barr, who was at the Justice Department reviewing the report, will now summarize it for lawmakers. How much will be made public is left to Barr's discretion.

In a letter to top lawmakers on the judiciary committees, Barr said he anticipated that he might be able to advise them of Mueller's principal conclusions "as soon as this weekend." A senior Justice Department official said that Barr will not be sending his conclusions to Congress on Saturday.

Special counsel spokesperson Peter Carr said in a statement that Mueller will be concluding his service in the coming days.

Clare Hymes contributed to this report.

I truly wouldn't have expected them to do so anyway because if anything, they need time to go through it and create their talking points.

13. Justice can not release classified stuff which might be

present in the report. It would be a criminal violation of law. I am guessing AG Barr will release a summary this weekend, and the full report will be released after redaction of classified material, which could take weeks if not months.

20. Aside from possibly the names of confidential sources, how much of this could actually need

to be 'classified', though?

Srsly.

Protecting ongoing investigations OTOH ... that could be a serious concern ... but I want to HEAR that outta Barr's mouth ... 'we have to protect ongoing investigations', not some 'it's classified' BS, myself.

I once had top secret clearance, and and in my opinion the "classified" game is carried unnecessarily too far. But laws are very strict and people have been sent to prison for violating those laws.

27. Well, yeah, once something is stamped Classified, there's a lot of rules I'm sure ...

But we'd still be in the 'determining if XYZ should be classified' stage, and I wouldnt' think a lot of what would be in the report would automatically fall into existing buckets of 'this must be classified', if you know what I'm saying ... other than protecting sources, how much of what's in there could reasonably involve nat'l security?

Knowing Trump though he'll be like 'If you undermine the Authority of the President, that endangers America!' ...

Trump and his minions think they dodged a bullet. I have a notion ó only a recurring thought ó that Mueller delivered a bomb to AG Barr, who is now trying to figure out how to tell Trump in a way that doesnít cause him to start World War III. Barr knows he works for a psycho.

29. Quite possibly...

Quite possibly...

Gates' case has already been moved to the local US Attorney's office in DC; it's entirely possible there are multiple other cases stemming from the facts found in the special counsel's investigation that have been passed to other US attorney's offices - SDNY and EDNY, for example - and state and local agencies (NYAG and NYCDA, for example)...

It's worth remembering that when someone really has Trump dead to rights, he blusters right up to the moment he settles. The Trump University civil case is the obvious case study, but there have been others...

I can't believe he hasn't received at least a summary of the report by this time. And wouldn't he have spurted "No Collusion!" all over the universe by now if it could be interpreted in any way as exonerating him? Maybe his lawyers snatched his phone from his tiny hands to prevent him from having a premature etwitulation and reaching his usual cyber-orgasm before he was supposed to.

It was reported that on Thursday the 21st, Mueller and his office had bring your kids to work day. If the investigators did not produce anything worthy as a momunento historical mark in history, they would of not brought their families in to show them to be part of history. With that note and the report to be delayed another day to Congress, it must be BAD NEWS for TRUMP. Trump KNOWS it!
