Rick Santorum is coming for your birth control

The GOP presidential candidate is against non-procreative sex -- even for married couples

Here is an actual Rick Santorum quote: “One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country.” And also, “Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that’s okay, contraception is okay. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”

These comments were not dug up from some bygone moment of ideological purity, before dreams of a presidential campaign. He said it in October, to a blogger at CaffeinatedThoughts.com (they met at Des Moines’ Baby Boomers Cafe).

It’s pretty basic: Rick Santorum is coming for your contraception. Any and all of it. And while he may not be alone in his opposition to non-procreative sex, he is certainly the most honest about it — as he himself acknowledged in the interview.

This is important, because while reproductive rights are always cast in terms of pro or against a woman’s right to an abortion and in what circumstances, even liberals are surprised to find out what social conservatives really want to do about contraception. Liberals are even willing to cast the proposed defunding of Planned Parenthood and all Title X programs (a position that has become mainstream in Republican circles) as an abortion issue, when it is actually about contraception. (The Hyde Amendment already bans almost all federal abortion funding.) So is this about “babies” or is this about sex? Rick Santorum isn’t even pretending it’s (only) about kids.

Who beleives it to be their moral imperative that they add guilt, shame, and pain to anything related to sex in particular, and love or decency in general.

Evangelical Christians are very pro-birth control. (Pill, foams, gel sponges, etc.) They are just anti-abortion. It is just the Catholic church that is anti-birth control, and most Catholics use BC. The other candidates can beat him over the head with it.

Yo, Dick! People will have sex whether contraception is available or not..They'll roll the dice, they'll take their chances just as they have since the beginning of time.

"Be fruitful and multiply" (the quote they use to justify their no contraception argument) was not a commandment. It was a blessing.

This man is utterly insane. Even the Catholic church recognizes the right to family planning, albeit with the ridiculous concept of the "rhythm method." Would he like to fund the medical bills for tens of thousands of unplanned pregnancies every year, not to mention the $250k needed to raise each child to age 18? Fuck you, Shithead. Keep your bullshit "values" for yourself and the crazy Duggars.

10. Santorum: States Should Have The Right To Outlaw Birth Control
Wed Jan 4, 2012, 08:12 PM
Jan 2012

Rick Santorum reiterated his belief that states should have the right to outlaw contraception during an interview with ABC News yesterday, saying, “The state has a right to do that, I have never questioned that the state has a right to do that. It is not a constitutional right, the state has the right to pass whatever statues they have.” Watch the Jake Tapper interview:

Lack of a job and mortgage, but they would be making babies they cannot afford just because they have a ring on their fingers? Excuse me? Do the REPUKES want more, MARRIED, people on welfare just because their stupid RELIGION says that POOR married people must make babies? Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth.

I can only assume that Mrs. Santorum finds him attractive, but it seems Ron Paul has the same attitudes towards contraception.

Why would any woman in her right mind sleep with a man who believes banning contraception is a good thing? Why do women CONTINUE sleeping with them? Let's face it, any guy with their attitudes towards women (and our reproductive freedom) CANNOT be any good in bed, for starters. We won't even consider what it must be like every time they open their mouths before or afterwards.

Again, ladies: Maybe someone here can enlighten me. I'm at a loss. I can't even imagine making the sexytime with a guy like Santorum. Or Paul. There's many more names for that list, but right now, they both leave me breathless with their hubris and sheer stupidity.

Maybe I'm alone here, but there isn't enough money in the world to stay with a man who believes you aren't enough of an adult to control your own reproduction...

He must be very insecure about his manhood to need to control women that way.

I would be repulsed by him if he looked like George Clooney.

It's all about the "enjoyable" part. Keeping them barefoot and too pregnant to strike out on their own is a side benefit.

at least Santorum is up front and frank about it.

What I've come to expect from republican candidates like * is they'll be secretive about their agendas until they're in office and then spring them on us. With Santorum we have the opportunity to at least vigilantly campaign against his stance on birth control.
