Autopsy planned today for SC 5th-grader who died after school fight

[IMG][/IMG]

Staff at Forest Hills Elementary called 911 around 1 p.m. Monday to report that a student had collapsed. Authorities found Raniya unconscious but breathing in a nursing station.
She was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to Medical University Hospital in Charleston, where she died Wednesday morning.

District officials have said the incident happened in a classroom. No weapons were involved.
The Sheriff’s Office and the Colleton County School District have declined to provide specifics about the fight, citing an ongoing investigation. They have not said what caused the fight and whether the students were being supervised at the time.

The school district has suspended the other fifth-grade student involved. That student has not been identified.
No arrests have been made and no criminal charges have been filed, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Raniya’s mother, Ashley Wright, has said that her daughter was bullied at school and “nothing was done.”
School and law enforcement officials have not commented on whether bullying contributed to the fatal incident.

How many more kids have to die before schools take bullying seriously?

one other student who has been suspended was involved. There may or may not have been staff in the classroom.

AFAIK it happened in the classroom. The police & school have been very tight lipped about this. The Mother has said she complained about bullying and the school did nothing. Now her daughter is dead.

The child could have been tripped and hit her head real hard on the floor? The other kid could have been bigger and sat on her chest during the fight causing ribs to break and cutting off her air supply. By the time the teacher was able to break it up, it was too late?

The teacher could have stepped outside of the room for a minute?

I think the only way the Mom is going to get answers is to sue the school. What time was the fight? How long before they called the ambulance? When was she notified?
