Phil. Inquirer PA poll: Obama leading by 9 among likely voters, Romney unfavorable rating at 50-43

Obama holds a 51 to 42 percent lead over presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney among the state’s voters, according to a new Philadelphia Inquirer Pennsylvania Poll released Saturday.

Obama holds the edge among female voters with 55 percent support to Romney’s 39. Among men, Obama holds a slim edge at 47 to 46 percent for Romney. Independents also tilt toward Obama at 47 to 43 percent.

The president holds a positive approval rating among voters with 53 percent favorable to 47 unfavorable. Thirty-three percent said they were strongly favorable and 20 percent somewhat. Thirty-six percent held a strongly unfavorable view of the president with 11 percent saying they were somewhat unfavorable. Among independents Obama was up 52 favorable to 45 unfavorable.

Romney, though, is underwater on his approval rating, with 50 percent unfavorable to 43 favorable. Among independents he is down 49 to 43 percent favorable.

Got an alert from the Inquirer about this poll on my phone early this morning. Hope we can make sure the lead not only holds but that people will be able to vote unencumbered! Unfortunately it is a small sampling though...
