Attorney General William Barr said Wednesday he didnt feel there was enough evidence to prove President Donald Trumps instructions to his then-White House Counsel Don McGahn about removing Special Counsel Robert Mueller had corrupt intent.
Testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Barr said it wouldnt be a crime if the president felt he was the victim of false accusations and wanted someone removed because of a conflict of interest. And Barr said McGahns testimony didnt accuse the president of directly telling him to "fire Mueller" but rather to raise the issue of removing Mueller with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.
"The president later said that what he meant was that the conflict of interest should be raised with Rosenstein, but the decision should be left with Rosenstein," Barr said. But, Barr acknowledged, McGahn felt it was "more directive."
McGahn, the former White House legal counsel, is shown in Muellers report describing events in June 2017 when he received a call from Trump, directing him to tell Rosenstein to remove Mueller.

(52,126 posts)beyond saying that he trusts the investigation will be conducted fairly and he has full faith in the process, which of course is nothing like the sort of thing donald fraud would ever say.
even if we were to believe barr (and why would we), it doesn't really help donald fraud's case.
"go ask the ag to look into removing this guy due to a possible conflict of interest".
how is that not obstruction? firing someone, or directing that someone be fired, is hardly the only way to obstruct.
it gets donald fraud off the hook about as much as a mafia boss gets off the hook when all he says is "he has a nice restaurant; shame if something were to happen to it."
