My first presidential vote, and to my parents' horror, I voted a straight Democratic ticket and so did my sister.

But I did ask my parents to let me stay up late and watch the returns come in - I connected with Pres. Carter then and he remains my favorite president to this day. I greatly admired Obama, but Carter captured my pacifist heart.

At the time I remember though a lot of people thought he was weak, the media helped bring that along which is why Reagan got elected when they screwed him over on Iran Contra thing.
