New Quinnipiac poll: “23 percent say the media is the "enemy of the people." Republicans say 49 - 36 percent that the news media is the enemy of the people.”

Trump and the Media

The news media is an important part of democracy, 66 percent of American voters say, while 23 percent say the media is the "enemy of the people." Republicans say 49 - 36 percent that the news media is the enemy of the people. Every other listed party, gender, education, age and racial group says the media is an important part of democracy.

By 52 - 35 percent, voters trust the media more than Trump to tell the truth about important issues. Republicans trust Trump more than the media 82 - 9 percent. Trusting the media more are Democrats 92 - 2 percent and independent voters 54 - 29 percent.

I also believe that portions of the M$M are the enemy of the people. It depends how we define people. The M$M is complicit with the corporate right wing. Fox News most certainly is the enemy of working class Americans.

Now if we are talking about the 4th estate, about investigative journalists, that's a horse of another color, thank god for them, they put their lives on the line to simply report the truth. The press is mentioned in the Constitution for a reason, our founders realized its importance.

4. We're like the public schools

If you know us, particularly those of us working the menial jobs at local newspapers, you like and trust what we do. If we seem distant, you don't.

Television? That's predominantly show business, not journalism, with a few notable exceptions, even at the local level.

Americans like their local schools, but think public schooling is, overall, deficient. The same can be said for us journalists.
