Have you ever noticed the cycle?

A brand new pharmaceutical drug appears in a nifty commercial.

The drug comes with a laundry list of side affects.

The drug disappears.

The next time you hear about the drug, it's on a law firm's commercial to help people to file claims against the drug company to file damages.

Lawsuit settlement announcements.

They come on TV talking about this terrible condition, but they have the cure or at least relief.

They are throwing drugs out there making a quick billion and then paying off those who suffer from their snake oil.

the people who hear the list of possible side effects - stomach cramps, anal leakage, difficulty breathing, headache, nausea, hallucinations, loss of sex drive, loss of hearing, inability to speak coherently, nightmares, night sweats, persistent insomnia, temporary/permanent paralysis, memory loss, incontinence, heart palpitations, seizures, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts - and then call their doctor saying, "I think I found the perfect drug to cure me of occasional hiccups."

There are some drugs that advertise so many side effects, they come off like an SNL parody.

What's truly amazing are the ones that include "and, in some cases, usage has proven to be fatal" - especially when what they allegedly control is something as innocuous as occasional leg cramps.

"Miracle weight-loss pill - may lead to obesity."

"Insomnia control medication - may cause sleeplessness."

"Asthma relief drops - may result in difficulty breathing."

When the "side effects" may lead to what it was you were trying to cure/control, it is indeed time to go back to the drawing board - unless, of course, you feel that your symptoms just aren't dire enough, and need to be kicked up a notch.

said one has to really weigh the benefits. Sometimes even risky side effects are better than the unmedicated alternatives. I guess a lot of it too boils down to how good the doctor is and the doctor/patient relationship.

Some doctors have told me they get sooo many medications thrown at them that it's hard to keep up with all of the new medications and various side effects, especially the undocumented details.
