Couple Sunday morning thoughts...

Waiting for someone to write a book, "When America Went Crazy and Why."

Anyone else hear Deutsch say on Joy Reid's show yesterday that he would not be surprised if trump releases his goons on the populace if he loses in 2020?

Chilling. And not in the relaxed meaning of the word.

...I might be called up to defend our Democracy. I'm a GenXer, never subjected to a draft, never called upon to serve my country. But if this happens, I will do what my Dad did in 1943 - defend the US.

You amaze me!

At 64 y.o., I am just going to try to stay strong and healthy in order to fight the good fight.

Fortunately our daughter is in a good (blue) place. I am in a blue state.

He worked in a war-necessary position (making rope at the local rope plant) until 1943, when he was called up to fight in Operation Overlord (he didn't hit the beach on 6/6/44, but came ashore 3 weeks later with his anti-aircraft contingent, 551st AA Bn).

In 1983, a pal of mine joined the Army. I tried my best to talk him out of it - keep in mind that Reagan was POTUS and I had a sincere fear that he would get us into a war. He didn't (to his credit, he was a shitty POTUS, but didn't start WW3. Just a stupid incursion into Grenada). Anyhow, GenX me continued on my path of non-involvement, smoking weed and grooving to bands like Talking Heads and The Police.

FF to today. I'm still the GenXer I was 30 years ago. Certainly more prosperous than then, but still acutely aware of politics and how it affects my situation, my bottom line. If I'm needed, I will fight. It's in my DNA...

I stuffed envelopes and went door-to-door for McGovern as a 7 year old. Repeated the process for Hugh Carey (NY Governor) and Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Mike Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, John Kerry and, of course, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Me mum started me on this path 47 yrs ago... Both Mom and Dad were politicians, ran for School Board (Dad won, and Mom tried to take his seat after he drowned at the age of 45, but was defeated? Who votes against a widow, for Christs sake?? ).

We have our very own proxy war right here in the good ol' USA.

So far they are all loners, too radical and stupid to even have partners in crime. ALL of them are deluded and show signs of being infatuated with something or other that Trump represents. I’m sure we can figure out what if we haven’t already.

Trump’s base is mostly older Baby Boomers who have felt left out of some economic plethora they feel they have a right to have at the expense of those of us who they perceive have it. And quite frankly they’re stupid and have abdicated any individual analytical thinking in exchange for groupthink. They are arguably among the stupidest faction of the American people, riddled with racism, misogyny, and homophobia. It takes stupid people to be that prejudiced. Let me repeat that. It takes stupid, easily manipulated people to spread racism, misogyny and homophobia. It also takes mental laziness of such a degree that they eschew any personal thinking on any subject.

I think this laziness which has crippled any ability to take personal responsibility for their lives in order to lift themselves out of their economic circumstances instead of buying into self gratifying victimhood and baseless rage means they will NOT do anything as strenuous as to do battle in a real civil war. They’re too lazy.

Will there be lone crazy nuts doing violence? Yes. We’ve always had those.

I don't know which I agree with more.

As a baby boomer, I was raised this country was for ALL of us. As a baby boomer and watching the segregationist policies of the 50s and 60s I realized differently but I watched our country become better in some way.

Then fucking reagan came along and the shit got stirred to the maximum and talk radio became king. But I still thought our country was going to go forward, not do an about face.

We got through the bushes, the investigations into the Clintons, the election of President Barrack Hussein Obama and now we face these idiots who feel they deserve it all due to their whiteness.

I don't fear them. If I were to die in the defense of the United States of America and our Constitution, I would be proud.
