General Discussion

Ok, we have over 500 prosecutors saying loudly that Trump was/is obstructing justice after they read the Mueller report.
So the word "obstruction" fits what Trump was/is doing perfectly.
Now, before you lecture me that impeachment is fruitless because the Senate will not consider impeachment, then please specify/explain to me what law/or-anything-else the House does in the next two years that will pass the Senate?
For just one example I've heard about "coming together (with the GOP) to fix Healthcare". Are they really serious? That is more unlikely at this point than impeachment!
Anything else I might be missing? Please educate me because I can't really think of anything mcturtle or anyone else in the GOP, including Mueller or Barr, will say or do if not under the threat of impeachment.
And now, here is what I expect to hear at the next Trump/GOP rally, "SIX more years!"

(4,575 posts)Folks here earlier today who insist we must not talk of impeachment so as not to upset the Republicans. I don't know what kind of stategy that is or what on earth we are waiting for. Will there really be free and fair elections in 2020? Micharl Cohen said he believes Trump will not leave office peacefully and Pelosi co signed ig to the NYT. Do we have a plan here?

(7,700 posts)politically correct in our Dem actions in the House.
Our duty now is to protect the House BEFORE Russia/Trump/GOP outlaws us as trying to "over-rule the will" of the people (ruling us from Russia eventually in my opinion!)

(4,575 posts)On the news this evening it eas suggested arresting Barr would be ludicrous. Really? Why? Do they honestly think he is going to hand over the report? I ask because I honestly do not know what to think anymore.

(7,700 posts)They all think/know they are above the law. Because they have done similar kind of what we call "illegal" stuff for years and have never been locked-up for it before.
With Trump in the WH we can only expect he/they will continue unless we use the word:
IMPEACH NOW! (remember DU is the way us responsible Dems from the U-of-DU communicate with the D-of-DU.
Say it over and over until they hear all of us loud and CLEAR!
IMPEACH!

(7,700 posts)GOP, evil then, evil now.
The "next time" they do something evil may be much more worse now that they think, or know, they can get away with it.
We need to stand up and STOP them NOW!

If we fail to use impeachment as a tool in 2019 to hold rumpie accountable, we may be dooming our chances to stop another term. Fearing the downside, promoting inaction will only embolden those who seek to destroy our Democracy.

(37,648 posts)No do-overs. Everything has to be perfect. Ducks all in a row. All the evidence (which Congress hasn't seen), all the arguments considered, Pelosi needs to verify the votes for impeachment beforehand, etc.
I also think they should consider filing a secret indictment, if that can be done. If the Senate needs to get on board, that can't be done, obviously.
Then we need to gain some Senate seats in 2020, as well as win the Presidency back. Then we're talkin' turkey. Hopefully we can get an indictment at that point. Can impeachment be retroactive? If so, maybe that should be considered, if we gain some Senate seats.
Then we go after McConnell.

(7,700 posts)To be honest I think the GOP/Trump/Russia rigged 2016. What if they rig the old machines again and we lose the House, Senate and WH? Then the idea of a just and fair Democracy will become nothing more than a naive dream.
Honeycombe8
(37,648 posts)I think the Russia rigging is being ignored. I also think the rigging by Russia in 2016 is underestimated by some (or many?).
2016 was rigged. There is no reason to think the same thing won't happen again. If anything, Russia might be able to hack individual election systems even better this time.
That's why I say...we need to fight the refusals by the W.H. to appear or product documents, even if we lose. It's time we find out if we have lost our democracy or not. If we are on the way to a dictatorship, or not. Let's find out just how far Russia has infiltrated our government.
My 9th grade civics teacher is probably turning over in her grave. She explained what a takeover by a hostile foreign nation would look like, and this is it.
