being allowed to finish his term??? trump--the career criminal who's actively courting more russian interference, actively courting white supremacists, illegally profiting from the office he holds, constantly trying to divide the country, constantly lying, constantly tweeting nonsense, and grossly unfit. Does anyone still prefer that? I honestly can't think of anyone worse than trump. There's no way pence would be reelected, BTW.

Be careful what you wish for.
One thing people are discounting is the Pence "honeymoon" that will give him a great boost if he's in the White House. People will be so exhausted from Trump, many of them will see him as a welcome change. This applies especially to Republicans who want nothing more than to vote for a Republican president but are disgusted by Trump. While they'd never vote for Trump, they'd be very happy voting for Pence over any Democrat running.
And you can kiss the Obama-turned-Trump voter goodbye.
I'm not saying this is a reason not to impeach Trump. But people shouldn't fool themselves into thinking that Pence would be some kind paper tiger pushover who'd serve a few months and be gone. We'd have to completely revamp our electoral strategy (including forgetting about trying to attract wayward Republicans a d instead focus on building and turning out our own base - which I'm all for anyway). We could be stick with him for 10 years instead of 10 months.

(3,479 posts)Pence would struggle to match that seeing as how he isn't racist enough to galvanize the deplorables.
Biden will defeat Trump. He would annihilate Pence.

We should know by now that anyone can beat anyone on any given day.

(32,677 posts)any "values" argument he'd attempt to make could be destroyed in seconds. Simply play a clip of him fawning over trump, the most vile president in US history. I don't see how the "never trumpers" would be OK with a trump-enabling hypocrite like him.
Also, he'd probably choose the most wacko VP available to appease trumpers, which would force the reasonable majority to our side.

(26,727 posts)I think Pence is plausibly more likely to win (particularly if the economy continues to grow and none of Trumps mess sticks to the VP. A possible NINE years of Pence is far less appealing than getting past a hamstrung Trump Until Jan 2021
