srsly, tho, i have a trumpkin in my life, and it has been a running joke about watching the impeachment hearings w him.
i hope it actually happens, cuz if he cracks, my faith in humanity will be restored.
not a typical one, just a radicalized old hippy that fell down the breitbart hole. not in it for the racism, but for the deep state.
he is my sign post for the future of this country. srsly.

if there is sunshine and snacks in my future, it will all be ok.

Not under normal oversight, which a judge may very well deny if he/she doesn't like the Democrat's stated reason. It may not meet a legislative purpose (yes that is still required despite the "shall" language). Hopefully the judge rules with us.

Whether it's part of oversight or impeachment has no legal significance.

And there is no requirement that Congress prove it meets a "legislative purpose." If there were, the statute would so state.

Congress can't do things it doesn't have Constitutional authority to do. However, Congress' legislative authority is extremely broad and the power to investigate is inherent in the power to legislate, so the bar that the Committee would have to overcome is very low.

In this instance, the Committee clearly detailed its legislative purpose, so that's not an issue here.

And, as I said, Treasury's duty to produce the documents is the same, regardless whether it's requested in connection with oversight or impeachment.

testimony before the House Committee. The assertions that Trump would boost up his income/level of worth for loan purposes and then lower his income/level of worth for tax purposes. That's no only unethical, but illegal.

I would have thought that the best way for the committee to proceed would be for it to immediately file a petition for a declaratory ruling and injunctive relief with the district court seeking a ruling that Mnuchin is obligated to produce the returns under the tax code and directing him to do so (with judicial contempt as an enforcement mechanism).

However, by taking the additional step of issuing a subpoena for the documents, the committee can still go directly to court without having to issue a contempt citation that would have to be prosecuted by the DOJ and can inform the court it had exhausted all of its remedies.

Give them by Tuesday May 14, 2019 or you go to jail, period.

Now, a bet without betting anything, that IRS does not comply...by May 17th...any takers?

The IRS, why don't they also request the tax returns filed with the state of NY? The NY AG announced she would be only too happy to get Trump's return from the NY Dept of Revenue for the Congressional Committees that need to see Trump's returns...
