We had people there well over 12 hours a day for weeks because they had a hard opening of Sept. 12 and you cant open if the lights dont work and the fire alarms dont work and the fire marshal cant inspect it, said Tim Miller, executive vice president of AES. There is a lot of work that went into that hotel, and it didnt happen by accident.
Trump got his wish: The hotel was ready enough that on Sept. 16 he held a campaign event there honoring veterans, which was carried live on national television. He touted the hotel as having been completed under budget and ahead of schedule and said that when it opened officially the following month it would be one of the great hotels anywhere in the world.
But around the same time, Miller said, the Trump Organization and its construction manager, Lendlease, stopped paying AES. Three days before Christmas, AES filed a mechanics lien with the D.C. government alleging that it was out almost $2.1 million. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to us, Miller said.

The AES filing brings the total of allegedly unpaid bills on the hotel to more than $5 million. Washington-area plumbing firm Joseph J. Magnolia Inc. and Northern Virginia construction company, A&D Construction, are seeking $2.98 million and $79,700 respectively.
...........................................................................
Miller said he simply did not want the company, family-owned and founded 32 years ago, to have to eat the costs. The hotels total price tag was around $212 million. Trump claims he is worth $10 billion.
Were not in this for any sort of political reasons, Miller said. We have no ax to grind, political or otherwise. Were a business. We have 700 employees that we pay every week. We have bills. We are effectively financing this work, and we dont think its right. Thats really it.

It's not like this is the first time he's stiffed a contractor for a ton of money. That info, the evidence that the man has zero honor or integrity, was out there for everyone who wanted to be an informed voter. I have a cousin suffering Trump regrets & claiming ignorance about Trump's character. I said, yeah, too bad you didn't spend some of that time you spent posting hate stuff about HRC, Googling "lawsuits against Trump" instead.

(31,261 posts)if they had told Trump to go screw himself because he cheated past contractors, in the situation that existed in 2016, they would have gotten roasted. The Press would have ignored all the evidence about how Trump was a deadbeat to focus on AES not wanting to work on Trump's hotel, the Press would have come up with all types of theories about how politics was playing a part in the decision. The Press bends over backwards to get the right's claims before tv viewers, they always have.

(37,648 posts)is that they don't require payments on an ongoing basis. They may get a percentage up front, and that's it? Then they wait to bill the conglomerate upon completion? Or they bill them along the way, and disregard the fact that the conglomerate doesn't pay those bills, and continue working on the project.
The jobs are big, and are feathers in the cap of the service businesses, so they cut the conglomerate slack.
So, although bills are required to be paid, it's hard for me to feel too sorry for them. They know Trump's history of stiffing contracts and filing for bankruptcy multiple times.
Trump sometimes doesn't pay services after a while, I've read, because he just decides, "I've paid enough." Then that forces the service companies to sue him to get their money. Sometimes a service business won't do that, probably, because suing is very expensive. Esp when your defendant is Trump, who has expensive lawyers to make sure it costs you big.

(7,997 posts)is billed monthly. The work is divided into types, then billed by percentage complete. The catch is the retainer which is often 10%, is held back to pay after the work is totally complete and everything passes the punch list. That 10% can be a ton, and if the last two or three payments aren't made either, that could add up to a bunch of money.
Once a contractor is well into the job, they don't have much time to complain at the end if those last payments aren't coming in a timely fashion.
I worked as the controller in construction companies for 40+ years, so I know how the cheaters work.

(28,317 posts)he's never done this before. It's not like the fact that he routinely cheats contractors is some kind of secret.
From this point forward, if you expect to be paid by that dribbling dotard, you'd better get 100% up front. Otherwise, any loss is your own damn fault.
