Jimmy Carter underwent surgery for a broken hip after falling at home in Georgia, his office says. He was leaving to go turkey hunting when he fell. “President Carter said his main concern is that turkey season ends this week and he has not reached his limit,” his office says.

She lived to 102. And she lived in her apartment and got around until about 6 mo. Before she died.

Not that I can expect him to live forever (although the idea of the first centenarian president is within his grasp now), but I shudder to think about a nation where the most moral, ethical and upright man to ever hold the office is "eulogized" by the most unethical, immoral man to hold the office.

I campaigned for him as an 11 yr old in 1976.

But, this type of injury for someone in their mid-90's has a high mortality rate.

And I believe he knows the secret to rehab is to start exercising quickly; he will bounce back quicker then most.

I saw something somewhere that said there are classes that teach elderly people falling strategies. Research says they are very effective.

the hip's already broken. hopefully he has enough determination and muscle reserve to walk again. it's really hard at that age - my MIL never did.

wishing him the best, but he's probably not going turkey hunting anytime soon.

Turkey hunting in his nineties. He is one tough character - it gets harder to heal as we age.

This is not the sort of injury you want to incur at Carter's age. He is amazingly active and sharp but falling like this, having a break often indicates frailty. Even when we don't want to admit it.

Hope he recovers. He's done such good work here and around the world!
