Trump claims hes seen piles of dead bald eagles underneath windmills: You see them all over the place

President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that he had seen dead bald eagles all over the place because of energy-producing windmills.
Under that deal, everybody in this room gets fired, he continued. All of the thousands of guys and women standing in these buildings get fired, they go because under the Green New Deal, they dont like clean, beautiful natural gas. They dont like anything.
Trump noted that progressive politicians sort of like wind even though it kills all the birds.
But thats what they were counting on, wind. When the wind doesnt blow, you dont watch television that night, Trump added.

(10,127 posts)I'll bet the count is actually zero.
I have been at the base of many a wind turbine and I have never seen a single dead bird of any kind.

A line from the Venture Bros: The first man to turn a grudge into a career.
For the record: Far more birds are killed by feral and pet cats than wind turbines. Well, maybe not eagles.

(24,367 posts)The man has never set foot within 100 yards of the base of a Wind Turbine (I say 100 yards, because it's possible AF1 did a low pass over a windfarm...who knows?) so he is just making shit up, just like he always does.

(6,931 posts)Piles of dead Eagles or even piles of dead birds under a wind tubine would be big news and be on our local stations. I have NEVER seen one story about any of the BS Trump is spewing.
I have read about the thousands of birds killed by guy wires on a radio or TV antenna which are invisible at night.

(4,723 posts)More nonsense his deplorables will eat up with a spoon, no doubt. FAUX will run the story, then put on an "analysist" or "commentator" to spin the BS it into ahideous confection.

(115,681 posts)The power companies that operate them lease or get easements for the land they're erected on from farmers. I wonder if Trump-supporting farmers have found piles of dead eagles or other birds below the wind turbines on their land. If not, I wonder if they wonder why their wind turbines don't have piles of dead birds below them, and so maybe Dear Leader is, uh, mistaken?

(6,535 posts)yeah, that's about right...the threat of climate change is about as much of a hoax as the involvement of the Russians in the 2016 presidential election...so I can't fault him there.

(6,535 posts)something on the order of 250,000 to 600,000 per year or so if I'm reading this chart correctly in this Wikipedia article, based on a "preliminary study" of causes of avian mortality in the U.S. conducted by B. Sovacool...and holy shit, cats are just brutal!

(422 posts)But there has been a slight dip in Bald Eagle populations. Apparently every time a professional football player takes a knee during the National Anthem, a Bald Eagle drops dead from the sky. You don't want to know what happens when an entire team takes a knee.
So there's a problem, not from windmills, but from the NFL.
Peace,
Noodleboy.

(3,647 posts)Birds do fly into things. I get bird strikes on the windows of my house frequently. It's a common thing out in the country. Birds fly into tall buildings, too, at night or in foggy weather, especially when migrating. And birds hit cellphone towers under the same conditions.
I suspect more birds are killed by hitting the bazillion cell towers that now exist than by the wind turbines. But I don't hear calls for removing them or not erecting more.
