Connie Schultz: Welcome to the Dystopia of Alabama

Welcome to the Dystopia of Alabama
By Connie Schultz
May 16, 2019

Let's start with a few facts about the children currently living in Alabama.

Twenty-six percent of them — more than 285,280 — lived in poverty in 2018, which is the most recent year for available data. About 30 percent of Alabama's children living in poverty are younger than 5.

"The researchers found that children who grew up in families below the federal poverty line had gray matter volumes 8 to 10 percent below normal development."

To be clear, by "gray matter," they mean the brain.

So, that's one measure of how much Alabama values the life of a child.

Here's another: Alabama has the highest infant mortality rate in the country. When it comes to keeping children alive after they're born, Alabama is rock-bottom last.

So, what is Alabama doing to help these children?

Well, we have news.

In the competition for which state is the closest replica of Margaret Atwood's dystopian Republic of Gilead, Alabama is the hands-down winner. It is now the most dangerous state in the country, and the most hostile one, for women of reproductive age.

Enslave women and make them reproduce from the age they can to the age at which it is reproductively impossible. In this manner, they will keep women in a physical state of perpetual reproduction, and child-rearing, which will make it virtually impossible to have a meaningful occupation and will completely kick them out of professional positions (doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, etc.). It will virtually guarantee that the only people in any kind of occupation that would allow monetary worth and personal freedom will be white males. Period. It will return women to the status of chattel. Women will be owned by men. Any man. Their fathers. Their male siblings. The next door neighbor. The pedophile that just moved two blocks over. The rapist lurking in an alley or following them into the parking lot at the grocery store.

THIS is what the retrumplican so-called "Christians" are having wet dreams about.

We fight it with money. We raise money for Alabama women seeking abortions to travel to another woman-loving, woman-respectful state. We raise money so she can get proper medical care and rest and recuperate at a hotel and then travel home. We give them a way to get what is their fundamental right.

There needs to be a fund aside from Planned Parenthood where women can go to get healthcare when they are denied that healthcare in their state of residence. I contribute monthly to PP, but I would also contribute to a fund such as this one. I think anyone with a brain would do so.

Requires volunteer help too...and caring, normal people.

The Alabama type of people aren’t normal and they are visibly uncaring—no, gleeful—in their freedom from the fetters of Empathy.

Good goddess almighty. Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.... where the impoverished citizens do the growing of babies without any meaningful support system. Birth enough of them and a few will survive to vote Republican (with 10% less grey matter).

Could some of these monsters really be planning this?
