800 827 1000. Called the VA today about loan eligibility

Welcome to the Veterans Affairs telephone assistance service. For the assistance via the internet please visit www.va.gov.
If you are having thoughts of suicide press 7 now to be connected with the Veterans Crisis line or call 800-273-8255 and then Press 1.

Look it's great that they have that as the top of the phone tree but it's also sad.

they ask me if I've been depressed or suicidal.

Problem is, though, that budgets have been slashed, so if you say "yes" you don't know for sure what kind of help you'll get.

This message is played in all the times I've made a call. They do it because veteran suicides were at 22 deaths per day, including my son. No snark intended underpants, I respond with the lsame sadness you express. Those are epidemic numbers...

I pay my share of copays with my emploer's insurance and don't mind it for VA's "free" deal. My idea of free is not "my way or the highway." I'm not in the military, I'm a proud civilian.
