Hurricane Isaac a very real challenge for Obama administration

Last edited Mon Aug 27, 2012, 02:40 PM - Edit history (3)

I just read the GOP convention in Tampa has avoided a direct hit by Hurricane Isaac. The hurricane warnings for this area are no longer in effect. But the winds are still heading up the Gulf coast.

It looks very threatening for other communities in the area. The perfect opportunity for the Democrats and Obama to show that they can govern and respond in a time of emergency in an efficient and timely manner. To demonstrate that government isn't the problem, but the answer in times of need.

A perfect opportunity for Americans to compare the GOP response we saw under Bush and will likely see under Romney/Ryan. When they are popping their corks and releasing their balloons in Tampa this week, where will Hurricane Isaac be making landfall? Obama needs to make sure emergency responders are on the ground before the the wind touches down. No eating cake while New Orleans drowns.

I made this mockumentary for the GOP convention in Tampa. I put the words of the GOP in their own mouths. It was the whole message of my video.

Republican National Convention 2012 Weather Report

on edit:

The GOP display of vulagrity as they revel in their mad ideas is set to resume full blast now. We will be driven up a wall by the damn fucking lies they will spew.

Yet, there is a hurricane winding its way up the Gulf coast that may sink the GOP like the Spanish Armada . The ghost of Katrina will follow it like a windy shroud.

And we Democrats need to make sure we respond promptly and effectively. That no one compares our response to Bush eating cake as NOLA drowned, that no one compare our response to the events in the super dome, that no one says Obama did a "huckuva job, brownie." Because those assholes who care nothing and will lift not a finger to help the communities that will be impacted by this storm are only too willing to blame Obama and the rest of us for whatever goes wrong.

This is a golden opportunity to prove by action what fools they are. It is a weird wind that is blowing down there. Almost like a voodoo wind. And I think FEMA and Obama will not get it wrong. They are not so tonedeaf as that idiot Romney. He can only hear the sounds of coins clinking together.

The GOP has avoided facing responsibility on this issue for far too long!

this is the perfect moment to demonstrate that tax dollars can be well spent and can help out the individuals and communities whose work provided the money to the government in the first place.
and best of all (not that there is a best associated with a tragic storm) is that the very people whose lives will be impacted by this storm are the folk being courted by the GOP.
wouldn't it be wonderful if, right before the election, southerners who felt abandoned by bush/the government after katrina came to recognize that obama/the government could function as it was designed to function, to provide for the common good?
how obama responds to this storm is likely to have a huge influence on how many southerners vote in november.

"the very people whose lives will be impacted by this storm are the folk being courted by the GOP..."

I have vivid memories of Katrina and the response of DUers. I also remember our total shock, anger and frustration at Bush's complete lack of response. This is what we can expect from those greedy ass corporatist hairdos that call themselves human beings on the right side of the aisle in this country. They do not care about anyone outside of their circle jerk.

I will never forgive the GOP for Katrina because that's when I found out they were willing to do this little to save Americans in need after taking so much from us.

Edited because I found some old Swamp Rat art:

unlike the dimson Bush.

The whole expensive extravaganza in Tampa is going to start looking very bad -- like someone on the Carpathia breaking out the champagne and caviar to watch the Titanic sink.

bush was so comfortable enjoying the fruits of his "trifecta" that he looked just that callous.
i hope that the gala in tampa is seen just this way while those who really care about americans are on the ground helping to rescue those who need help.

is that they don't even try to hide their evil motives or methods. they seem confident enough (probably because they own the voting machines) to laugh in our faces when we ask for fairness or justice.
i really hope that americans are not fooled by their thinly veiled racism and their lying scare tactics this time around.
we can't afford it.
