American Politics Is Like an Old Pot of Cassoulet in a Bistro

You never empty the pot or wash it. You just add water, beans, some duck confit, a sausage or two, a piece of jambon, and keep it simmering. Even after a century, molecules of the original cassoulet are still there in every bowl you serve. It just sits there at the back of the stove, ready to serve.

It's always the original recipe. It's always ready for anyone who walks in the door.

That's my theory about eating in foreign places. Usually it works out OK.
