These show (think) they need to protect their guests from harsh attacks to keep the guests coming back (think Rince is going to come back on a day when Matthews is in the building?). And so Mika is polite and cordial to them -- Jon Stewart is the same way with his guests.

What would level the field would be if all the news shows (and I exclude Fox from this category) would be similarly "rough" on their guests. They would have the choice of crawling to Sean Hannity or not getting air time. As it is, Republicans avoid tough interviewers (like Rachel Maddow) like the plague.
