China tariffs could trigger thousands more US store closures

The trade war with China is threatening to trigger one of the biggest waves of store closures that the U.S. has ever seen, according to UBS research.

Higher tariffs on Chinese goods could force 12,000 stores to close within a year and put $40 billion of sales at risk, UBS analyst Jay Sole wrote in a recent research note.

"The market is not realizing how much brick-and-mortar retail is incrementally struggling and how new 25% tariffs could force widespread store closures," Sole wrote.

The rate of store closures in the U.S. is already accelerating, having reached a 10-year high in the first quarter amid growing pressure from e-commerce and consumers' "tepid" willingness to spend on apparel and footwear, Sole wrote.

in any negative ways before the election? If it does, will they realize their Dear Leader is the cause for this mess and will they care enough to vote differently? I doubt it.

do it. You likely have dirt on you-know-who-#45, his family, and his subordinates. Send copies of the dirt to the major newspapers in USA. Very Important: Do not send the dirt to only the U.S. DOJ, which is under the control of a stooge of you-know-who-#45. The newspapers will thank you and find ways to reward you. You should also consider sending the dirt you collected by tapping phones of ... -- well, I have said enough. I think you have gotten the idea.
