his base.

Those people have listened to those preachers all of their lives. They just automatically go into religious mode when they hear that preacher rhythm. It's kind of like tuning into delta waves the minute you hear certain music.

Brain washing at it's finest.

The good news is that he's a really bad actor and the vast majority of Americans rejecthis shit.
Even his shrinking base is seeing through his act. Just wait until they turn on him and it won't be long.

Some of his followers knew they were in big trouble but they didn't know how to get out. It gets tricky when the guards are carrying AK47s.

I think some of Trump's followers just don't know how to get out either.

that they are huge frauds. But when members of your congregation keep telling you how special you are, and how you are blessed by God and all that weird kind of stuff you begin to believe you are God's voice on earth.

That is pretty powerful stuff. Even some very practical people get sucked in.

that many flunk for the reasons you describe. Especially when it comes to religion.

From what people who know him have said, he has an almost crippling need to be loved, which is part of being a narcissist. So he’s created a base who are mindless in their slavish adoration of him which finally fills that need, though it needs to be constant, never ending, bottomless for him. He has to go back time and again to get his fix. He’s addicted to his base, yet it’s never enough. If they desert him he will become vindictive against them. He’ll punish them with real venom.

But like ancient kings of old who convinced themselves they were gods, trump, as all pathological narcissists do has begun to actually believe what he says and now believes he is favored by god.

He is old and I can’t believe he is intellectually curious enough to work out a personal philosophy, like many freethinkers have, that can discount a heaven and hell.

So as he, like all of us, looks at his coming death, he has latched onto the most sophomoric of all philosophies. That doing what god want will win him a place in heaven. He would not, by any means, be the first. History is full of them.

I’m not a psychiatrist but I have stayed in a Holiday Inn Express! I am a freethinker who is familiar with this kind of thinking with older relatives that as they approach death work our crazy ideas about getting to heaven.

Buying into all that heaven and hell stuff. She had just barely graduated from high school. She was dyslexic. Her husband couldn't read it write either. But they were nice people and she was a good friend.

I remember her saying that she wanted to get into heaven and she would believe anything that would get her there.

I think she thought of heaven as paradise- whatever that meant to her. Angel choirs and roads made if gold. It's different for everyone.

Where did that stuff about streets paved with gold come from,,?

I know the slaves had visions of paradise that they sang about in their songs. That makes sense. Their lives were so awful that they dreamed of a better life in heaven.

I don't think Jews really believe in that sort if heaven. I think they just believe in sleep until the coming of the messiah.

Revelation has a bunch of weird stuff about heaven and angels. But streets paved with gold I don't remember.

an acceptance of the idea that there is an entity more important than himself.

I'm thinking it's more likely he's convinced himself that Ronnie Jackson is the most brilliant MD who ever walked the planet and that he will in fact live to be 200 - owing of course to his "perfect genes" and money.

But he sure does know how to play the suckers. He might have made a genuinely lucrative living as a peddler of religion if only he wasn't so very lazy.
