NEW YORK — A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a request by President Trump to block congressional subpoenas for his banking records, according to the Associated Press, dealing the latest blow to the president in his bid to battle Democratic investigations into his personal finances.

The decision in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York states means that Deutsche Bank and Capitol One can hand over the president’s financial records to Democrats in the House.

Lawyers for Trump, his family and the Trump Organization filed for a preliminary injunction earlier this month as part of a lawsuit seeking to block the two institutions from handing over documents to the House Financial Services and Intelligence Committees.

“There will be no way to unring the bell once the Banks give Congress the requested information,” Trump’s lawyers William S. Consovoy, Patrick Strawbridge and Marc Mukasey wrote. “The Committees will have reviewed confidential documents that this Court may later determine were illegally subpoenaed.”

12. Judge Told Trump Attorneys Their Case To Block Subpoenas Isn't 'Serious'

The bench ruling came two days after D.C. federal judge Amit Mehta issued a lengthy and broad opinion denying a similar request from Trump to shut down a Congressional subpoena to his accountant Mazars. In that opinion, Mehta compared Trump’s behavior to that of President Buchanan.

Ramos called Mehta’s opinion “thorough,” and quoted it in his own ruling.

Ramos’s decision came after lengthy and contentious oral arguments, during which the judge took pain to grill both sides.

The private attorney representing Trump at the hearing — Patrick Strawbridge of Consovoy McCarthy Park — stammered as he attempted to respond to an initial volley of questions from Ramos.
