Beam me up, Kentucky? George Takei tweets he's 'tempted' to take on Mitch McConnell

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/politics/2019/05/23/george-takei-tweets-hes-tempted-run-against-mitch-mcconnell/1213123001/

Could George Takei boldly go where no man has gone before?

No, not into the far reaches of space, but someplace even harder to reach: Defeating long-time U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell for his seat in Washington.

The actor famous among Star Trek fans for his role as USS Enterprise pilot Hikaru Sulu and, more recently, well-known as a left-leaning political advocate, tweeted Thursday that he's "tempted" to move to Kentucky just to run against the Kentucky senator and Senate Majority Leader.

I don't know Kentucky politics so I have no idea who might be a possible contender, but a celebrity moving in from outside would never have a chance no matter how much he is loved in the rest of the country.

Hopefully Takei will help whoever does try to unseat the turtle!

the former fighter pilot who lost a close race for the House last year in a district that was redder overall than Kentucky as a whole.

Popular Kentucky sports talk radio host Matt Jones has tossed about the prospect of challenging McConnell as well, but I'm not sure how serious he was before.

No matter how remote the chances of winning, we need someone in every single district to stand up and point out the crap that Republicans have done.

and also in 2006, when they made big gains as well.

I'm disappointed, however, that we don't have Stacy Abrams running for Senate in Georgia, Beto O'Rourke running for Senate again in Texas and Steve Bullock running for Senate in Montanta (there aren't a lot of popular Democrats in MT with statewide name recognition...)

They would be better off running for the Senate or House this time around to build their resumes for a future presidential run. But I am not a campaign consultant and never will be!
