and why Republican completely ignore, justify and enable his wrongdoing - just as they always cover campaigns by focusing on the "horserace" instead of the issues - is lazy, childish and a tremendous disservice to the American public.

just about covers this...as usual... The TV show about a fictional President covered a whole lot of what we have seen in the past 17 years.

(10,090 posts)Why let Republicans off the hook? The GOP is responsible for this mess, they should clean it up.

(1,722 posts)But yes, ABSOLUTELY, the media focus on political strategies and horse race rather than issues is a really big problem with the media.

(18,486 posts)Their excuse is that there's no point because the Republicans have altogether abdicated their responsibility.
It seems if you're craven and irresponsible enough, the press won't even bother to hold you accountable.
But if you struggle to do the right thing, you get trashed every day - not just by the media, but people on your own side - because you're not doing it fast enough.

(12,843 posts)That kind of media coverage spins a narrative that this is all about partisan politics rather that actual impeachable offenses.
And focusing on the horse race instead of the critically important issues we face is just as bad.

(13,839 posts)Democrat's strategy to impeach or not impeach. We need to make the case that Trump needs to be impeached and the media (not including Fox or right wing radio) will follow.

(18,486 posts)The media's behavior has nothing to do with what the Democrats are or aren't doing.
The minute Democrats start impeachment, the media drumbeat will shift from "Why aren't the Democrats impeaching?" to "Are the Democrats going about impeachment correctly?" and, if he's not removed by the Senate, "Did the Democrats overplay their hand by impeaching so quickly?"

(13,839 posts)course of action we will lose. We need to frame the narrative and not wait for the media to do so.

(13,074 posts)Republicans controlled Congress two whole years?
Democrats have been in office three months since February and suddenly the fate of the countrys in their hands.

(13,074 posts)Republicans did zilch for two years and not once did the media call them out for it. Three months in after more ten years out of majority control and you believe its okay to be pressing for the Democrats to quickly resolve this?

(13,839 posts)It would have made no sense to start impeachment proceedings while he was doing his report. The media asking about impeachment strategy makes sense given that the Democrats are conflicted on whether to impeach or not. Are you thinking if we were in power a few more years it would be OK? Maybe if Trump wins a second term we'll be ready to move forward on it? That is, if we keep control of the House.

(13,074 posts)have held or scheduled hearings which again Republicans didnt do despite blatant misdeeds by Trump.
Republicans squandered two whole years of opportunity to address corruption. Why should Democrats be the only ones taken to task in view of that?
Why doesnt the media even mention the fact that Republicans had total authority to do anything they wanted and they did nothing for the American people and waited until the election to pass off the wall fiasco as if they could not have funded the project at any time?
All of this points to the obvious: Republicans and their media are all about political theater and too many still want to debate their contrivances as if they are authentic issues.

(14,558 posts)it normalizes the fact that the republican party has absolutely on concern for policy or good governance.
The sports like framing lends the GOP the benefit of a the state university status, having great loyalty toward it, and sanitizes their never ending fuck wittery.
At this point, the media today is that fucking stupid a lot don't get it, some do and eagerly play their roles as republican tools.

(6,994 posts)the Corporate Mafia, that support Trump and Republicans...they got their huge tax cut bonus and its all show to keep Democrats watching..The scripts are written by Republican producers and yes there are exceptions like Rachel but her show is a huge amount of Revenue for the Corporate Cats.
If the Cable news covered the Impeachment reasoning they would lose revenue

(1,237 posts)I couldn't find any. Though, I found a quite a few from the late 90's calling for Clinton to resign and be impeached for one count of obstruction.
