British Royal Family to Play a Big Role in Trump's Upcoming Visit to the UK

President Donald Trump's three-day state visit to the U.K. next month will be dominated by events with Britain's royal family, according to a new schedule released Friday by Buckingham Palace.

The prevalence of events with members of the royal family this time may also reflect a deeper understanding on the part of Trump's British hosts about what the president personally enjoys doing while on foreign trips. Lavish ceremonial and cultural events on prior trips elsewhere have pleased and impressed Trump to a great extent, and he has spoken glowingly of military parades and royal ceremonies he has experienced on other foreign trips.

This time around, the heir to the British throne, Charles, Prince of Wales, and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, will also play hosts. Also underscoring the personal nature of Trump's June trip is the fact that the president plans to bring all four of his adult children with him to the U.K. for the state visit, a White House official confirmed to CNBC on Friday. The optics of Britain's royal family hosting the extended Trump family are likely to create just the kind of imagery the president is known to appreciate.

Below is an abridged list of the events Trump is expected to attend in the U.K. that will feature members of the royal family, according to the Buckingham Palace schedule.

MONDAY 3rd JUNE

The President of the United States of America and Mrs. Trump will arrive in the UK on the morning of Monday 3rd June.

Her Majesty The Queen, joined by The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, will officially welcome The President and Mrs Trump at Buckingham Palace. The President will receive a Ceremonial Welcome in the Buckingham Palace Garden and The President, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, will inspect the Guard of Honour.

The Queen will host a private lunch at Buckingham Palace for the President and First Lady, after which Her Majesty will invite The President and Mrs. Trump to view a special exhibition in the Picture Gallery, which will showcase items of historical significance to the United States from the Royal Collection.

Afterwards, The President and Mrs. Trump, accompanied by The Duke of York, will visit Westminster Abbey.

The President and Mrs. Trump will then join The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall for tea at Clarence House.

In the evening, Her Majesty The Queen will give a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace for The President of the United States of America and Mrs. Trump.

TUESDAY 4th JUNE

On Tuesday morning, The President and The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon Theresa May MP will co-host a business breakfast meeting, attended by The Duke of York, at St James's Palace, with senior UK and US business leaders.

In the evening, The President and Mrs. Trump will host a return dinner at Winfield House, the Residence of the Ambassador of the United States of America. The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will attend the dinner on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen.

WEDNESDAY 5th JUNE

On Wednesday, The Queen, accompanied by The Prince of Wales, with The President and Mrs. Trump, will attend the National Commemorative Event for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings at Southsea Common, Portsmouth, alongside over 300 D-Day veterans.

The Queen will formally bid farewell to The President and Mrs. Trump in Portsmouth.

Especially after the way he spoke about Princess Diana. His last meeting with the Queen was a disaster, I can't understand why she just can't meet him for tea and be done with it. They don't have to give him the royal treatment. What could they possibly have to discuss with each other?

The Trumps are a family of poorly educated, low-life, crass idiots. I really can't imagine why the Royal Family would want to expose themselves any more than they possibly have to.

Lucky Meghan...

Knowing how close Harry (especially) but also William is to Obama, that should be interesting. Sorry, guys!

So, will Trump say something horrendous about Princess Diana, mock William's balding head, or trip the Queen?

I'm dying with embarrassment already.

In a 1997 radio interview with Howard Stern just months after Princess Diana‘s death, Donald Trump insisted that he “could have” had sex with the late British royal — but only would have done so if she passed an HIV test first.

Meanwhile, the queen needs to play the age card. She's 93, why should she put up with this trash? All she has to say is she feels a bit tired, who's going to argue with a woman her age if she says that? (My aunts say being in your 90s is a great excuse to get out of doing something you don't want to do you just say you don't feel well.)

But, the story has become some sort of Tour-de-Trumpolini.

...a big part of it. They have to represent the UK. Sometimes it's pleasant, as with the Obamas, and other times they have to make nice to nasty but important people like the Trumps. You think the UK wants a trade war with the US?

The Queen has to deal pleasantly with presidents, prime ministers, rulers, and ambassadors. Given how ancient she is now, it only makes sense that her sons, grandsons, and their wives will take on a big part of the job.

The extended Royal Family have a fairly full calendar of hospital openings, ribbon cuttings, award presentations, and travels to foreign lands to keep friendships and alliances alive. It's required. The notion that a young woman who marries a British prince will get to sit around eating bon-bons is mistaken. I would not want the job.

As for the pomp and pageantry some here complain of, a lot of that seems to have begun around a century ago as -- pay attention now -- a way to get tourists to come and spend money. Also to be of interest to locals. And it works.

On his last visit with the Queen, Trump kept her waiting for about 20 minutes. But Trump later said the Queen had kept him waiting upon his arrival, but that he didn’t mind:

Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on Aug 4, 2018, Trump said that the 'fake fake disgusting' news made people believe he made Queen Elizabeth II waiting for him, in fact, insisted he was early. Twitter called him a 'fool' for ignoring the fact that it was televised live and there is proof.
“I landed [and] I’m on the ground and I’m waiting ... I’m waiting. I was about 15 minutes early and I’m waiting ... Hey, it’s the Queen, right? We can wait. But I’m a little early,”
