SCOTUS *denies* review of Doe v. Boyertown (transgender students' accommodation policy)..

This was an appeal of a lower court decision that allowed a Pennsylvania school district to continue its policy of letting transgender students use the locker room/bathroom facilities of the gender that they identified as. The 3rd Circuit had ruled in favor of the school district in July 2018, and the plaintiffs asked for SCOTUS to review the case in November 2018.

Today, the Court declined to hear the case, leaving the lower court's decision and thus, the school board's policy in place.

1. Good for SCOTUS, showing some restraint. This will drive the right crazy. These kids suffer enough

and leaving the lower court’s ruling in place is a glimmer of humanity in an otherwise dark period of our history.

2. Yes.they do suffer

I have a transgender grandchild who is in her late 20's. She has to be very careful about where and when she goes out.
We live in a very conservative community with many conservative churches and this makes it dangerous for her.

3. Will it drive the right crazy?

Sure, they won’t like this decision, but it also signals a willingness to allow states to make their own laws.

Some people like the idea of states making their own laws, others only feel that way when they like the laws.
