President Donald Trump criticized the Navy's plans to install new electromagnetic aircraft launch systems on its new Ford-class supercarriers while talking to US troops at a Memorial Day event in Japan.

............ During Tuesday's talk, Trump polled US 7th Fleet troops aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, asking the crowd of sailors and Marines which was better, steam or electromagnetic catapults.

The troops overwhelmingly supported the use of steam; however, there were some who cheered for the newer system.

Trump — a staunch proponent of traditional steam catapults that are less complex than the alternatives, which he believes a person must be "Albert Einstein" to fully understand and operate — quipped that service members who supported the use of electromagnetic catapults were working for the enemy.



As he has done many times throughout his presidency, Trump championed the use of steam catapults to launch aircraft from the Navy's new carriers.

"Steam's only worked for about 65 years perfectly," the president explained. "They have a $900 million cost overrun on this crazy electric catapult. I said, 'What was wrong with steam?'"

"We want to go with steam," he further remarked. "They are always coming up with new ideas ... They want to show next, next, next. And we all want innovation, but it's too much. There's never been anything like the steam catapult." ...............................

But now I am fairly certain that the electromagnetic version must be better.

Everyday is opposite day when it comes to Trump's understanding of technology.

4. Say goodbye to military superiority...

The United States of America is NOT the world's most powerful military because we put morons in charge of weapons development...and despite the ass ferret's assertion, nuclear weapons DID require Einstein and the equivalent of the best minds in the world in the 1940's to develop and later horrifically perfect.

We also train our personnel to handle the complexity of modern weapons systems and engineering, not just grabbing line cooks out of McDonald's or village idiots to man the propulsion or catapult systems. They DO know and understand this "stuff", just because the usurper is incapable of understanding anything does NOT mean so too are our troops.

Imagine for 1 second how many GOP heads would be exploding if Obama or Clinton or any Democrat EVER implied that our weapons are too complex for our soldiers, sailors and pilots to understand or operate...I can hear the garments rending from here...

Not that Nuclear power isn't an accident waiting to happen.

On a side note, I have read the military is really interested in the electromagnetic catapult technology (also known as rail guns). Theoretically, projectiles could be fired at higher velocities then they can using chemical/explosive propellants.

articles about the new Catapult's. Sounds like it is another Mega dollar toilet seat deal. Major design issues,but nothing a few billion could not correct.
