GOP Group to Run Ad On 'Fox & Friends' Urging Congress to Hold DT Accountable: Mueller Did His Job

GOP Group to Run Ad On 'Fox & Friends' Urging Congress to Hold DT Accountable: Mueller Did His Job... Now Do Yours

Republicans for the Rule of Law (RRL), a conservative group whose stated purpose is “defending the institutions of our republic,” will advertise on Fox & Friends next week to urge members of Congress to hold President Donald Trump accountable for the findings in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

Next week, RRL will air an advertisement on Fox & Friends urging members of Congress to continue investigating Mueller's findings to hold Trump accountable and uncover every detail of "Russia's complex scheme to weaken our country."

The roughly 30-second-clip opens with a clip of Mueller’s statement. “The matters we investigated were of paramount importance. It was critical for us to obtain full and accurate information from every person we questioned,” the special counsel said on Wednesday. “When the subject of an investigation obstructs that investigation or lies to investigators it strikes at the core of the government’s efforts to find the truth and hold wrongdoers accountable. If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”

The advertisement then cuts to a short voiceover: “Mueller did his job, now it’s time for members of Congress to do theirs.”

A quick google shows that RRL is a project of Defending Democracy Together, which is headed up by Bill Kristol, Mona Charen, Linda Chavez, Christine Todd Whitman, Jennifer Horn, Bob Inglis, Chris Gagin, Jaime Sneider, Andy Zwick, & Sarah Longwell. Conservatives, free market advocates, former GOP WH staffers, etc. (link is only for citation purposes)

Thoughts: What's in it for them? Candidate Pence in 2020? Genuinely trying to save the remaining retched dregs of the party? Reverse psychology? Also curious as to why Faux News is agreeing to run it, knowing full well what one would expect from their "executive viewer." If there is no tweetstorm hissy from him in response, I'm suspecting that he's been forewarned and told it was a new strategy.

I am wondering if someone will have to put a tarp over the TV like what was done to the USS John McCain?

They want to re-brand the party. They want to take their tax cuts & deregulation & fractured institutions that the Con has given them, & scrub the trump off their brand before he ruins it completely.

I can see why Repubs might want this: get Trump out ASAP and investigations go away; Trump will be blamed for everything and no other Repubs will be implicated, it’ll be business as usual. With Trump out, Pence will be put in charge, GOP will be rebranded as pure and uncorrupted, and the race to the bottom (for most of us) can continue. One thing Trump has shown us is that the entire Repub party is guilty of Russian interference and much more, which is why we need to keep investigating.
