I've noticed something

When people say that Congress "shouldn't worry about public opinion when making their decisions but should just do what they think is right," I think what they really mean is: "Congress should ignore public opinion if I don't agree with it. But Congress should listen to me and do what I want them to do - and if they don't, they're out of touch and ignoring the will of the people, which is wrong."

Because the reason for a democracy is in part to assure minority voices do not get droned out by popular opinion.

I think they are talking about people in general. And minority voices DO get trampled all over in this country all the time. That's mainly why we're in the mess we are in right now.

I think they should be swayed by their constituents.

As a point, Al Franken would still be a Senator if only his constituents decided.

things done. Simple rules like; constituents rule, or the 'rule of law' period, or 'trust the experts', - don't always work well. Our system of checks and balances, crude and sometimes awful, help check against some unnecessary disasters.

There really isn't anything I WANT Congress to do. I trust our party leaders to decide what needs to be done and how they are going to try and get that done.

What do you base your opinion on? Your world view or actual data?

If you think impeachment isn't a political act, why does Mueller need to testify in public?

And on and on....

The reluctance to start an impeachment inquiry is amazing. It is not a vote to impeach. It is not the drawing up of articles of impeachment. It is just the first step, with added powers (yes, it's true, there are added powers, despite what some say here). It is not "rushed". It is not "emotional". It's an obvious step that should have already been taken.

The explanation that makes sense is that Pelosi and her supporters are delaying now so they can delay forever.

However, while you've compiled a nice list of my OPs (thanks - for the shoutout) you haven't stated your point (although it does seem likes like you have a problem with posts that defend and support the Democratic Speaker of the House).

So, what IS your point?

Oh, and welcome to DU. I'm flattered that you've spent part of your first two days on DU researching and compiling my threads and devoted your 10th post to index them.

19. You need to take media distortion into consideration
Thu May 30, 2019, 07:40 PM
May 2019

You weren't around when we had a lengthy discussion about Dem messaging and the role the MSM plays in distorting our message or handing the narrative over completely to the Republicans.

Combine the lack of headline news about the steps we are taking with the "I want it my way and I want it NOW!" impetuousness, and you have a highly volatile situation. Now, I know you have tried to break down the process and explain it to everyone. Much appreciated, BTW. But I think you are fighting an uphill battle here. IMHO, the best way to mollify the crowd is to give updates of substantive progress in Congress's investigation.
