A subtle shift in the narrative??

I work with a few conservatives (thankfully most of my co-workers are more liberal than I am)! and I've also read some Facebook comments lately from friends-of-friends, and it just seems to me that their narrative has shifted ever-so-slightly over the last few months. When Trump was first elected and after his inauguration, they defended his every move. The man could do no wrong in their eyes. I would wince whenever I'd see one of those "God bless OUR President" posts.

But it seems to me that over the last year, and especially over the last few months, that their comments have changed. It slowly shifted from total adoration to "Well, he shouldn't have done that, but he's still OUR President" and recently more along the lines of "Well, I know he's an asshole, but he's done some good things for the country." There have even been a couple of comments recently along the lines of "I can't stand him personally, but I like his policies."

Has anyone else noticed this? I've also seen similar comments on generic news stories. Could it be that the steady drip-drip is having an effect?? May it be so!

1. In my case, not so subtle haha

My bosses were all tRump voters and supporters, and took great pleasure in my sorrow on election day.

I'm not patient enough to write about the slow transition, but it's word for word like you described.

This morning, I overheard them talking in the main office about these latest Mexico tariffs... One was asking "What in the hell is he even thinking?!", while the other just bluntly interrupted with "He's a fucking idiot."

Yes, I'd say things are changing.

There is nothing so sweet as hearing one of them call him a "fucking idiot." Music to my ears!

If we're lucky, they won't vote, but my guess is they'll get their ass to the polls & vote for Trump cuz Rush has them convinced that the godless dems want to take their guns away & give all of their hard earned money to uppity women, minorities, & gays.

The economy and every citizen who is not a 1%er will spend more of our hard earned dough on buying everyday items, food, transportation, maintenance costs etc. It's not being given away to minorities, women and gays. Trump is hellbent on destroying our economic stability to enrich himself. Not counting the depraved immorality he has unleashed in his minions.

and hero worship has died down. But I don't see that as turning into many Democratic votes. Most of these idiots will still vote for him in 2020 because they'll convince themselves or be convinced by propaganda that the Democrats are worse.

The good news is that a lot more young people will be of voting age in 2020 that couldn't vote in 2016. And a lot more old white men will no longer be with us. If we get out the vote, we will win.

The hard core ones will never vote for a Dem, but maybe some of them won't vote. The marginally stupid ones who were easily swayed might vote Democratic, but only if we get our message out.

"I can't stand him personally, but I like his policies." I think you're on the money. But I'm not sure if that is real cause for hope.
The quote given illustrates the problem. I cannot imagine what "policies" this administration is putting forward that people would approve of, but if you DO .. then you will be voting for him again in 2020. If you liked his tax cut, then you are either rich or stupid. If you approve of his "immigration" policy .. you're a flat out racist. If you kinda like his trade policy, then you both ignorant and stupid. If you're a supporter of his foreign policy .. then you are either an anarchist or a schizophrenic. And on and on .. but, with the point being if you "don't like the man .. but approve of what he does" .. then you are still way, way off the beam!

Trump HAS no policies, and when they say that, they're usually talking about his assholery and pettiness as a "policy." It's amazing - they can't stand him, but they love that he "tells it like it is" and "makes the libtards cry," while they're totally oblivious to the fact that they've been played. In fact, much of the adoration of Trump really wasn't about Trump at all, but the fact that the libtards were being owned (at least in their minds).

truth. every word.
Which why I don't have a lot of hope that any of these people will do anything like come around or see the light. They love the sh** show! Trump represents a big fat middle finger to the virtually everyone else in the world. It's the message he ran on. If you've got a frat boy mentality .. ya' love the guy.

Trump may have the frat boy mentality, but he's never really BEEN a frat boy. In fact, he doesn't have any friends at all, does he? Everyone he's ever been around thinks he's a total asshole. It would be sad if it were anyone else

And they will keep voting republican. I remember people who had those stupid W oval stickers on their pickups who ended up peeling them off and then couldn’t barely admit to having voted for him. It will be the same with orange fuckface.

Maybe they don't like his "policies" as much as they think they do? Ask the farmers.
