Jindal accuses Obama of not doing enough for Louisiana!!!

Last edited Tue Aug 28, 2012, 09:32 AM - Edit history (1)

(In other words, according to Jndal, the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IS NOT DOING ENOUGH TO HELP THEM--ah, the irony. I think it's just Jindal playing politics):

President Barack Obama declared a state of emergency in Louisiana on Monday as that state and others along the Gulf Coast prepared for Tropical Storm Isaac.

The White House said Obama informed Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal of the emergency declaration in a phone call. The declaration makes federal support available to save lives, protect public health and safety and preserve property in coastal areas.

Jindal, a Republican, shot back late Monday in a letter to the Obama administration that the declaration fell short of the help he was requesting.

"We appreciate your response to our request and your approval," Jindal wrote. "However, the state's original request for federal assistance .... included a request for reimbursement for all emergency protective measures. The federal declaration of emergency only provides for direct federal assistance."

He doesn't believe in federal money corrupting the dependency of individuals on each other. He wouldn't have that attitude if N. Carolina, Pa, or NY was threatened by a tropical storm. No, he would object and point to government excesses.

Bobby??? You can't help government get smaller by asking for money for your state. I think it's becoming clear that repubs only want government around to meet their needs and the hell with the rest.

Sweet: Jindal rejects $98 million in stimulus money for Louisiana

In one fell swoop, he’s stolen Sanford’s thunder as stimulus critic-in-chief. Risky, but I like it.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Friday that he will decline stimulus money specifically targeted at expanding state unemployment insurance coverage, becoming the first state executive to officially refuse any part of the federal government’s payout to states…

“The federal money in this bill will run out in less than three years for this benefit and our businesses would then be stuck paying the bill,” Jindal said. “We must be careful and thoughtful as we examine all the strings attached to the funding in this package. We cannot grow government in an unsustainable way.”

Sorry about the link to the "Hot Air" blog but it helps make the point about how much they loved this move.

approach to funding programs dedicate to serving the needs of local and state wide programs.

Since you all say that you don't NEED or want the government, remember that joke Ronald Reagan use to bring up, you know the one where the guy knock on a door saying I am from the Federal Government to help you and you guys, oh yea here comes the laugh line, your guys say no thanks, Ayn Rand says we need to suck it up because there are just too many liberal strings tied to every dollar from the DC so here's the kicker, wait for it, wait for it....

But I guess they do not really care anymore. It's as if for EVERYTHING the President does there is an automated response that reads 'Obama really fucked this one up'. The problem with this strategy is that it is blatantly political and void all credibility.

Jindal will do in this case.

Jindal Tours Louisiana Attacking ‘Washington Spending’ While Handing Out Jumbo-Sized Stimulus Checks

Despite the fact that the checks contain millions of dollars of Recovery Act funds for job training programs, housing assistance programs, homelessness prevention programs, police training, criminal justice technology upgrades, and community development block grants, Jindal has been printing his own name on the checks and taking credit for the money. For example, Jindal presented Lafayette with yet another jumbo-sized check that contained at least $2,125,584 in Recovery Act funds. Though the money came from spending policies authorized by the Recovery Act, Jindal did not appear to credit the Recovery Act at all. And although the state stands to gain nearly $8 billion in federal funding from the Recovery Act, Jindal was one of several GOP governors to try to block the measure earlier this year.

While Jindal knocks Washington spending as he builds his national profile, he is shoring up his local support by spending Washington money.

House panel moves to cut disaster aid

By Erik Wasson - 05/24/11 09:30 PM ET

House Republicans moved their first two 2012 appropriations bills through committee Tuesday amid fights with committee Democrats over deep cuts to disaster aid that come as Missouri grapples with a devastating tornado.

Appropriators reported the Homeland Security and military construction spending bills to the floor after beating back Democratic amendments to restore funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and grants to fund firefighter training and assistance programs.

Another disaster: Conservatives' attack on FEMA

August 29, 2011|By Sally Kohn, Special to CNN

Three months ago, Republicans in the House of Representatives tried to slash 2012 spending for the Federal Emergency Management Agency by 55% compared with 2011 spending levels, 70% compared with the 2010 budget. Thankfully, Senate Democrats avoided the most extreme cuts to FEMA. But since then, the United States has been pelted by several major disasters and FEMA is almost out of money.

Nonetheless, Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia -- whose own district was the much-damaged epicenter of a severe earthquake last week -- said he would not increase FEMA's funding until spending is cut elsewhere.
