well, your brain.
Side note: I'd say the same about a man who had shit for brains.

(14,040 posts)There are so many other reasons to insult Sarah Palin but the thought that she's only worthwhile because of her looks (and I know this isn't just a DU thing) is wrong on so many levels and why women who are serious aren't taken as seriously.

(14,040 posts)And I am being real. The fact that we place such an emphasis on looks and make pointed statements about who is worthy because of looks is a problem. By doing this, you're telling society, particularly women/young girls, that if they don't have good looks, they aren't worth as much or can't be as successful. Looks shouldn't be a consideration when it comes to someone's credentials for doing a job.
Instead of having an honest discussion about this practice, you instead deflect what I said and tell me to get real. I may not agree with her politics, I may not agree with her religion but the fact that she is a human being makes her worthwhile just not worthy of the position she ran for in 2008.

(46,416 posts)fame and attention she's gotten thus far based on her looks, unless you want to argue it was her steel-trap mind, command of the facts, work achievements, etc. That's the way Republicans are--intensely shallow, valuing a woman more for her looks than actual brain wattage. That's not my fault. Look at many Democratic elected women--most if not all are many times more lucid and accomplished than Palin--but don't necessarily look like pretty teevee anchors. I for one feel that she should have been stopped at school board member of Wasilla, or whatever--that's where she stopped being worthwhile for America's purposes.

(14,040 posts)Forget the fact this is Sarah Palin, pretend it's your mother. Would you want someone talking or thinking your mom is only worthwhile because she's seen as pretty by some people? You don't see a problem with that overall attitude? That's what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the fact that Palin is masturbation material for some men, I'm talking about the fact that seems at all relevant to any discussion we SHOULD be having about her or any other woman.

(46,416 posts)Women AND men. Plenty of airheaded good-looking dudes out there, too. Hell, if Mittens didn't look at least somewhat like a Hollywood President (tall, might be handsome if he wasn't so weird and fake and didn't slick his hair back in a strange way), he wouldn't have attracted as much attention in his first Presidential bid. And there are plenty of men and women who work at positions based SOLELY on their looks--that IS their contribution to society, for good or bad.

(14,040 posts)and I'm upset about because women, more so than men, are judged by looks more than merit. You're totally right, Palin wouldn't have gotten as far as she did nationally if it hadn't been for her looks. There's a problem with that. Someone as uneducated as Palin should never have gotten that far and that effects all women. That is what is upsetting to me.

(46,416 posts)raw ambition and relentless self-promotion. She has absolutely nothing else to offer us--in fact, she's harmful, in terms of dragging down the national political discourse.

(14,040 posts)because of her Palin support, because she was supporting the woman before the policies. She felt Palin would be good for women... so maybe some of that disagreement is still with me. I agree that Palin is dangerous. I think she's far more dangerous for women than people realize. IMO, because of her, women in politics are held at a lower standard, especially if they're attractive.
