How primary elections work in Illinois.

Here in Illinois, in a primary election, we choose either a Democratic ballot, or a Republican ballot.
We don't register as a member of any party. A voter can ask for either ballot.

Do any of the other States operate this way?

When the 2020 primaries come around, I want all my fellow IL DUers to ask for a Republican ballot,
and vote for anyone on there but Trump. Don't let that prick make it onto the ballot on Election Day.

Personally, I'm voting for whomever the Democratic candidate is in the General Election, so I'm not worried about
taking a primary vote away from any particular Democratic hopeful. I'm more interested in trying to help crush Trump's candidacy.

....is the best candidate. Would make the best president. And then assume that he or she did not get the nomination because you and others asked for a Republican ballot. The Democratic candidate who gets the most votes IS the best candidate. That is all that matters.

... and, yes, there are other states with open primaries.

I'm in Illinois, but I will definitely not be asking for a Republican ballot. There are simply too many elected offices here in Cook county that will be decided in the Democratic primary.

That I pulled a republican ballot was the year Rauner was originally running for governor. My husband and I both voted for his closest competition in the polls in an effort to keep that train wreck out of our governor’s office. Too bad it didn’t work....but at least we only had to suffer through one term. He did enough damage with that one.

Democrat or republican and get that ballot. Last time many independents or no party changed to democrat to vote for local dem congress candidate. She still didn't win. I am in the south only district that has republican congressman but it includes tge whole rural areas and only one liberal city Ashland.

And even if someone does they won't be able to get on the ballot in IL because of signature requirements (put there in the 70s to keep Progressives off the Democratic primary ballot). So your effort will be fruitless but Good Luck!
