probably plenty disorienting, though.
40' to 50' drop from a plane's door to the tarmac? uh-huh. ace reporting there, WaPo.

(30,540 posts)it was either a dead battery or no reception was what they said on the news.

(153,113 posts)Grabbing her phone, OBrien exchanged frantic text messages with Noel-Dale, who had been waiting for her friend to check in after landing, CTV News reported.
I would have texted CALL 911 (or 112)

(30,540 posts)so much for the local "news knowing what's what.

(153,113 posts)I'd want off that plane as fast as possible! It's ridiculous that anyone can be left behind....that is serious dereliction of duty by the flight crew.

(5,810 posts)their possessions were off that plane before moving it away from the gate? I thought a crew came through and cleaned the plane (or tidied up?) between flights. How could they overlook a sleeping adult woman? Or maybe they didnt clean this plane or check for lost or forgotten items. Like sleeping passengers.
She must have been dead to the world, intoxicated or took a sleeping aid to the point she missed announcements, landing and the hustle and bustle of people exiting the plane. Guess no one noticed her sleeping and thought to rattle her cage.

(146,262 posts)So, there is probably a policy that requires someone to check the plane or the bus for sleepers. But, it doesn't always get followed. When that happens, someone is left on the plane or bus, still sleeping.
Flight attendants have no problem checking seatbelts before takeoff. So, make a post-landing check of all seats just as important a thing to do. It would take less than five minutes to do that. Five minutes.
Just do it, folks.

(9,967 posts)he had gone to mass with his older brothers, who left him there.
THAT was a nightmare.
When was finally rescued "His eyes were like saucers". He'd been terrified that "The headless priest" (whoever that was) was out to get him

(703 posts)GMAB! Not everything is the fault of someone else. I fell asleep on a bus once and missed my stop by miles. I didnt wake up until the bus reached its final stop. Oh well! I survived. So will this woman.

(38,303 posts)I once fell asleep on a bus too.
Fortunately the driver waking me up at the end of the line was no big imposition. I was only ten miles from home, and ten miles was nothing to me then when I was often running more than 75-100 miles a week, day and night. Long before Uber.
Ten miles might hurt me now because my knees and hips are worn out and I'm too cowardly, and too broke, to seek bionic replacements.
No doubt I would survive a situation like this, and maybe tell amusing stories about it later, but I wouldn't be happy.

(2,133 posts)Seriously, if you can 'sleep for hours' on a plane, through turbulence, landing announcements and preparation and hundreds of people un-boarding the plane...
I would just guess napping ANYWHERE is not a good fit for your lifestyle.

(94,363 posts)If you sleep through landing, getting jostled by people next to you, etc. you're probably using a narcotic sleep supplement.

(38,303 posts)... but this is still horrible negligence by the airline.
How hard is it to make sure all the passengers are awake off the plane???

(20,592 posts)If you're someone who doesn't directly involve with strangers, fine, but at least tell the crew.
Sorry, but am I the only one who would have done that? I do things like that all the time when something doesn't add up.

(64,931 posts)He slept until about 6:00am after spending all night going back and forth under the Hudson River. He saw people getting on the train and realized they are going to work. 😂.
ETA: alcohol was involved.
